Genesis10 is currently seeking a Data Governance Analyst for a 6-month contract to hire role with our financial client. Hybrid position based in Brookfield, WI.
Summary:
The Data Governance Analyst is responsible for administering and advancing the organization's Data Governance Program. This role focuses on operationalizing governance policies, driving data classification and quality reporting, and supporting regulatory alignment initiatives. A key priority for this position is the implementation and ongoing administration of a new enterprise data catalog platform. The organization is currently in final vendor evaluation (Collibra, Atlan, Alation, and Microsoft Purview) and this individual will serve as the primary system administrator and functional lead for the selected tool - ensuring it is effectively leveraged to classify, segment, and monitor data assets across the enterprise.
Responsibilities
Data Governance Administration
- Administer and operationalize the organization's data governance policies and framework.
- Ensure data assets are properly classified, segmented, and documented across systems and business units.
- Identify and document where sensitive data (e.g., PII) resides and how it is used across products and throughout the organization.
- Support regulatory compliance, audit readiness, and risk mitigation efforts through structured governance practices.
Data Catalog Implementation & Administration
- Serve as the system administrator for the enterprise data catalog tool once selected and implemented.
- Configure, maintain, and optimize the data cataloging platform.
- Oversee metadata management, data lineage documentation, and data classification workflows.
- Partner with data engineering and technical teams to ensure proper integration and usage of the tool.
- Develop use cases that demonstrate business value from the cataloging solution.
Data Classification, Quality & Reporting
- Classify and segment enterprise data assets according to governance standards.
- Develop and maintain data quality metrics, scorecards, and reporting mechanisms.
- Provide audit and compliance-related reporting on data quality and usage.
- Analyze governance data and deliver insights to leadership.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with data engineering, IT, risk, compliance, and business stakeholders to understand how data is created, stored, and used.
- Communicate effectively with senior stakeholders, including Director-level leaders and above (e.g., Chief Risk Officer, Director of Enterprise Risk).
- Facilitate discussions around data ownership, stewardship, classification, and usage policies.
- Provide documentation, training, and governance support materials as needed.
Documentation & Program Management
- Maintain clear and thorough governance documentation.
- Support governance-related project management activities, timelines, and stakeholder coordination.
- Contribute to governance committees or working groups as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience,
- 7 years of experience in data governance, data management, or related roles.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
- Strong understanding of data concepts and how different data types exist and interact within enterprise data environments.
- Familiarity with how data is stored, structured, classified, and consumed across systems.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage and influence senior leadership and director-level stakeholders.
- Demonstrated documentation and project management experience.
- Strong organizational skills and analytical mindset.
- Ability to translate governance requirements into actionable processes and reporting.
- Note: This role does not require deep engineering expertise. A highly technical background is not necessary; however, a solid understanding of data environments and governance concepts is essential.
