Location: Long Island City, NY (Onsite)
Compensation: $75-$90 per hour

Company Overview

A well-established luxury residential construction firm with nearly four decades of experience delivering high-end projects for discerning homeowners, architects, and designers is seeking an experienced Interim Controller to support its accounting function at its corporate headquarters in Long Island City.

This is a hands-on leadership role within a multi-divisional construction environment, responsible for financial reporting, job cost and WIP reconciliation, cash management, and oversight of a small accounting team.

Position Overview

The Interim Controller will oversee day-to-day accounting operations while ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting. This individual will manage monthly job cost and WIP reconciliations to the general ledger, supervise three accounting professionals (AP, AR, Payroll), and support executive leadership with financial analysis and cash flow management.

The ideal candidate brings strong construction accounting expertise, deep proficiency with Sage 300 CRE, and hands-on experience with AIA billing and WIP schedules.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily operations of the Accounting Department to ensure timely and accurate processing of all transactions

  • Review and prepare accruals, including job-related costs and general and administrative expenses

  • Maintain control over all postings in the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers

  • Prepare and reconcile monthly job cost reports and WIP schedules to the general ledger

  • Lead monthly close process and prepare timely financial statements with supporting analysis

  • Manage cash flow, including preparation of a thirteen-week cash flow forecast and related analyses

  • Execute online banking transactions, including internal transfers and external wire payments

  • Prepare financial schedules and assist with audits

  • File sales tax returns in multiple jurisdictions

  • Liaise with external accountants, auditors, banking representatives, insurance brokers, and other advisors

  • Prepare annual budgets, reforecasts, and related financial analyses

  • Support and mentor accounting staff, ensuring proper execution of duties within Sage 300 CRE

  • Implement and maintain appropriate internal controls and treasury risk management procedures

Qualifications
  • Minimum 10 years of overall accounting experience, including at least 5 years within the construction industry

  • Demonstrated expertise preparing and reconciling WIP schedules using Sage 300 CRE

  • Hands-on experience with AIA billing

  • Experience in a multi-divisional accounting environment

  • Familiarity with S Corporation tax requirements preferred

  • Strong cash management and treasury control experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; advanced degree a plus

  • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Experience implementing accounting systems and improving processes

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with executive leadership and external partners

  • the individual's skill sets, experience and training;
  • licensure and certification requirements;

With that said, as required by local law, Vaco by Highspring believes that the following salary range referenced above reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
