Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The University College is designed to provide consistent, high-quality and appropriate academic advising, monitoring, mentoring, nurturing and coaching to ensure students' academic and personal success
Primary Purpose of Position
The primary purpose of this position is to provide leadership and support to help undergraduate students develop skills, behaviors, and habits that contribute to success in college. The Director of Student Transition and Engagement is responsible for the successful planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Aspiring Eagles Academy summer bridge program and continued engagement and retention efforts of this student group.
This position works to foster persistence and completion by actively supporting and engaging students within the Aspiring Eagles Academy program and other student populations within University College.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Possess exemplary work ethic and job performance that exceeds standard levels of expectation
* Demonstrate strong administrative experience, including project management, program evaluation, and managing budgets
* Demonstrate an ability to take initiative and utilize innovation to problem solve
* Demonstrate an awareness of the developmental process experienced by college students and familiarity with the college student developmental process and the college environment
* Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills and superior organizational skills;
* Demonstrate an ability to keep accurate and consistent records;
* Demonstrate an ability to work with diverse learners to ensure their success;
* Demonstrate the ability to work independently, and with team members and possess the ability to effectively evaluate student outcomes and staff;
* Demonstrate an ability to utilize technology;
* Demonstrate the ability to gather and interpret data, and prepare reports;
* Possess knowledge of first and second-year students, and transfer students
Minimum Education/Experience
The Director of Student Transition & Engagement position for University College requires a Master Degree and three years of service in education, counseling, higher education, or related fields.

The preferred candidate will possess a Master's in Counseling or Education, with a minimum of five years experience in a college setting, two years in a counseling setting, and university teaching experience.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties


Function Career and/or Talent Development

  • Design and implement the University College Summer Bridge Program (Aspiring Eagles Academy) including all aspects of recruitment, admissions, and programming for students


Function Planning and Organizing
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
  • Design and implement an effective series of academic and cultural events and workshops for each classification of students to assist in their various transitions throughout their collegiate experience


Function Training and Education
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
  • Provide training and supervision of Aspiring Eagles Academy staff; Create professional communications to students, alumni, and campus partners; Develop and sustain relationships with key campus partners to ensure ongoing support for the Aspiring Eagles Academy program.


Function Coordination - Work
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
  • Establish metrics and track student outcomes of the summer bridge program; Engage in grant writing and fundraising efforts to support the continued financial stability of the Aspiring Eagles Academy.


Function Leadership
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
  • Serve as a member of the University College leadership team and participate in regularly scheduled departmental staff meetings and events.
