Your Job

The Procurement Lead is responsible for developing and executing rate and capacity strategies that align with the KBX's pricing, service, and profitability goals. This role is accountable for building carrier partnerships, leading bid activities, optimizing asset-based capacity, and championing innovation across the transportation procurement space.

Our Team

The KBX Capacity Solutions Team plays a crucial role in ensuring freight moves efficiently and cost effectively for our customers. We specialize in building and managing strong carrier partnerships, forecasting and securing capacity across modes, and designing tailored solutions that balance reliability, cost-efficiency, and speed. Our team combines hands-on carrier management with data-driven planning and real-time execution to reduce disruptions, optimize utilization, and deliver transparent customer outcomes.

What You Will Do

  • Build and manage strategic carrier relationships to secure long-term capacity, competitive pricing, and preferred partnership status.
  • Serve as the carrier contact during bid and other pricing events to ensure clear communication, collaboration, and consistent discount-to-market outcomes.
  • Prioritize and expand asset-based, power-only, and asset-driven partnerships to reduce cost and broker dependency
  • Lead bid design, negotiation, and execution to meet or exceed discount and profitability targets.
  • Collaborate closely with Managed Freight and internal stakeholders to gain alignment on capacity needs, pricing impacts, service requirements, and continuous improvement actions.
  • Partner with Capacity Analytics and use market intelligence, price modeling, and performance data to inform bid strategy and decision making.
  • Use data tools and technology (optimization tools, mobile apps, portals, GenAI) to identify opportunities, drive adoption, and improve operational efficiency.
  • Establish clear expectations, ensure compliance to bid terms and conditions, and maintain consistent rate administration discipline.
  • Proactively monitor industry and customer operational changes (market shifts, seasonality, shutdowns, volume variance) to anticipate capacity impacts and adjust strategy.
  • Drive innovation by challenging existing processes, promoting creative capacity development approaches, and commercializing KBX value propositions.
  • Model leadership and KBX principles: maintain a Personal Development Plan with quarterly reviews, provide direction, and uphold high standards for internal and external trust.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Experience creating, executing and analyzing transportation bids
  • Experience in a procurement capacity within the transportation or logistics industry
  • Experience negotiating with carriers to drive cost savings
  • Experience with carrier management, truckload markets, and/or asset-based transportation models
  • Experience leveraging analytical tools to interpret and derive insights from data

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Experience in freight brokerage or managed transportation or transportation procurement
  • Experience reducing broker reliance and cultivating asset-based capacity
  • In depth knowledge of KBX's facility network
  • Multimodal transportation experience (Bulk, Open Deck, Over-dimensional, Van, LTL)
