The Engineering Intern - This role will support Airline Technology by assisting with enhancements, analysis, ongoing operational support and modernization of Flight Planning systems. This role provides hands on experience in application development, data integration, system troubleshooting, and Agile delivery practices within a large-scale enterprise environment. The intern will work closely with senior engineers, analysts, and product team members to help refine requirements, build prototypes, validate data flows, and support application improvements that increase system reliability and operational efficiency. This position is ideal for a student interested in software engineering, systems engineering, or enterprise application development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist engineers with development, testing, and documentation of Flight Planning application enhancements and modernization efforts.

  • Support analysis of system defects, logs, and data flows to identify root causes and propose solutions.

  • Participate in Agile ceremonies (standups, grooming, retros, demos) and contribute to sprint deliverables.

  • Help update technical documentation, diagrams, and application support materials.

  • Perform data validation and help prepare test scenarios for upcoming releases.

  • Collaborate with crossfunctional teams to understand workflows, dependencies, and operational requirements.

  • Learn and apply FedEx development standards, tools, and best practices.

Required Skills / Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.

  • Familiarity with one or more programming languages (Java, Python, or JavaScript preferred).

  • Basic understanding of APIs, web services, or system integration concepts.

  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and work in a collaborative team environment.

  • Interest in enterprise applications and operational systems.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with version control (Git).

  • Exposure to Agile methodologies.

  • Familiarity with databases (SQL) or data analysis tools.


Minimum Education

Currently enrolled student or recent college graduate (within 6 months of graduation) at a college/university obtaining a 3.0 GPA or higher.

Degree: Currently enrolled in a degree program such as Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering, Business, Business Analytics, Management, Finance, Economics, Information Security/Science/Technology, Information Systems, Engineering, Statistics, or other related major.

Minimum Experience

No experience required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to work productively and proactively, both independently and as a part of a team.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.

Demonstrates interpersonal communication skills.

Time management, organizational and multi-tasking skills necessary to work in a fast-paced environment, handling various tasks and changing priorities, while maintaining a high attention to detail and accuracy to achieve daily assignments and goals.

Verbal and written communication skills necessary to communicate with across business units and to all levels of management.

Ability to analyze, review, and make recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications: Immigration - Immigration sponsorship is not available for intern positions. Sponsorship may be available for full-time, exempt positions, depending on the specific role and federal regulations. Note, sponsorship is never guaranteed under any circumstance

Pay Transparency:

Pay: Salary is $25/hour for undergraduates and $30/hour for graduates. A $2,000 stipend is available for those relocating over 50 miles for an on-site or hybrid internship or co-op experience.
