| Position Description: |
The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Iowa invites applications for a visiting faculty position beginning August 2026. Applications are sought from candidates who have: 1) a commitment to engaged student learning in undergraduate Spanish education; 2) experience teaching Spanish speaking and writing courses 3) experience teaching courses related to Latin American literature and culture; 4) experience teaching online courses; and 5) excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills. Applicants must have a PhD in Spanish or a closely related field by the starting date to be qualified for the position. The Visting Assistant Professor will largely contribute to instruction in speaking and writing courses in Spanish and an asynchronous online course on Latin American Studies. They may also contribute to other courses as needed. The department has a history of strong collaboration with campus partners such as the Center for Teaching, the Office of Teaching, Learning, and Technology, and the Office of Academic Success and Retention to support the incorporation of research-supported instructional practices such as learning assistants and the development of tools such as the Elements of Success dashboard.
