Stockroom and Shipping Supervisor

Job Purpose:

Responsibilities include any of the following activities related to the receiving, storing, and/or shipping of materials or finished goods: ensures materials are received from proper vendors, that they are delivered to inventory, and that finished goods are packaged according to specification and shipped in a timely manner. Manages the activities of the team and is responsible for staffing decisions, training and development, and performance management of the staff. Reviews receipt of all materials to ensure purchase orders are open and the quality of materials received is correct. Ensures the security and accountability of materials and goods with inventory control. Ensures materials are available to meet production schedules and/or products are shipped as per marketing schedules. Establishes and modifies operational methods and procedures. Maintains documentation to reflect the effectiveness and efficiency of department activities. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.

Nature of Duties/Responsibilities:



  • Report inventory status changes and movement.
  • Supervise Stockroom and Shipping Employees
  • Compile bill of materials, utilizing knowledge of products to be manufactured.
  • Prepare all documents required in a formal, concise, understandable format and provide justification and approvals where required.
  • Maintain efficient flow of materials, inventory, and staging to manufacturing operations
  • Participate in periodic inventory counts. Conduct inventories as requested by management
  • Create, update and or modify SOPs
  • Write up investigation, deviations
  • Assist in Shipping and receiving of raw materials, intermediate and bulk products
  • Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of information in technical, mathematical, and diagrammatic and database application forms.
  • Advanced PC skills, expanded abilities in use of spreadsheet & database applications preferred, specifically, Microsoft Excel.
  • Detail oriented self-starter, able to work in a very fast-paced & dynamic environment
  • Ability to accomplish daily task with minimal supervision


  • Ensures orders are picked and kitted, and are available to meet shipping schedules.
  • Must work with the production team to coordinate availability of orders/products based on what is on order and due to ship.
  • Supervise the activities of clerks engaged in shipping, storing, and receiving products and materials.
  • Assist with inventory counts of finished goods, packaging materials as needed.
  • Inspect physical condition of the warehouse and suggest improvements to procedures to save time and/or to reduce costs.
  • Responsible for training staff to company procedures, and all shipping functions and conduct inventory counts. Need all personnel equally trained and qualified, department cannot have down time due to illnesses or vacation schedules. Need to train to and maintain "next man up" practices and disciplines.


Education and Experience:



  • 1+ yrs in a Supervisor/Lead role is required
  • 2-4 years experience in inventory control, material handling and receiving experience
  • Ideal candidate must have strong analytical, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent Oracle 11i, MS-Excel, MS-Office and MRP knowledge is required
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • Must be a team player and capable of interacting with multiple groups both internal and external customers.
  • Must be able to read and understand English
  • Must be flexible with schedule changes and work extended hours when required.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs
  • Must have equipment, safety product handling, product knowledge, intermediate computer skills, customer service and problem-solving skills.
  • BS/AA degree with APICS training, Advanced planning systems knowledge is a plus.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in both written and spoken English
