Lab Technician Intern

POSITION PURPOSE: The purpose of this position is to support automotive performance fluid validation via analytical test methods to enable R&D formulation development, along with quality control of existing fluids. The Intern will be involved in preparing samples for analytical evaluation and supporting the quality team in analytical problem-solving for root cause analysis within manufacturing sites. They will be responsible for maintaining lab consumable supplies while promoting proper safety practices and good housekeeping.

• Checking and restocking consumable lab supplies
• Logging samples and updating materials database
• Calibrating and maintaining equipment
• Sample preparation and basic analysis (washing, measuring, filtering, pH)
• Setting up and running samples on instruments including ICP, UV-Vis, HPLC, IC & GC-MS.
• Sample data processing and results interpretation
• Working directly with chemist and engineers who will train and supervise the student on all standard operating procedures
• Other Duties as Assigned

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

• Must be majoring in a science field and has in interest in analytical chemistry (eg. Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering)
• Must have completed at least one year of college chemistry and mathematics
• Must be detail oriented with strong problem-solving skills and self-starter mindset
• Must have good time management skills and the ability to work on varying tasks simultaneously
• Must have a good work ethic, be reliable, on-time, and enthusiastic to learn new skills
• Student should be able to take initiative on work that needs to be done, ask for clarity or additional instruction when needed, and be able to work independently as well as cooperatively with the team
