PURPOSE:

The Line Cook is responsible for the preparation of high-quality fresh food in a timely, efficient, sanitary, and consistent manner. The Line Cook is responsible for receiving and stocking product using FIFO system. The Line Cook is prepared to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure work environment, while maintaining the organizational ability to identify and act on job duties quickly and effectively. The Line Cook is prepared to work as a team member in a dynamic workplace, follow all safety procedures, and have a high threshold for heat in a kitchen environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position prepares food using recipes and menu items created by the Head Chef and helps keep the kitchen running smoothly.

- Oversee stocking and setting up the kitchen stations.

- Prepare food including cleaning and cutting the ingredients and cooking main dishes, salads, desserts, and other items (e.g., washing, trimming, cutting, grilling, portioning, mixing, baking, broiling, frying, steaming).

- Work with other kitchen staff to ensure food is completed as per the Chef's direction and on time.

- Wash and clean the kitchen and cooking utensils and store the equipment at end of shift.

- Ensure kitchen operation procedures and hygiene meet food safety standards and regulations.

- Clean up station and properly store and label leftover food and restock items as needed.

- Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and customers.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

A Line Cook plans, prepares, and cooks food items to ensure the highest quality of service and experience for customers. They keep the kitchen organized and running efficiently. They ensure proper food handling, sanitation, and food storage procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

- A minimum of 3+ years' experience in a similar role.

- High school diploma or equivalent qualification preferred.

- In-depth knowledge of restaurant best practices and cooking methods.

- Excellent communication and organizational skills.

- Aptitude for multi-tasking.

- Banquet and fine dining experience preferred.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

- Previous line & grill cooking experience.

- High School or GED.

- 3+ years cooking; banquets or hotel experience a plus.

- Ability to take and pass ServSafe.

PERSONAL SKILLS and ATTRIBUTES:

This team member is proactive and professional with a desire to help and support all kitchen staff members. Must be a team player, adaptable to shifting priorities, and flexible to training.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and write English and converse with others in a professional and courteous manner.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to use basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employe must be able to stand and walk for 8 hours. The employee is frequently required to use hands to cut, chop, grab, separate, peel, touch; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl; stand; walk; lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds; walk up and down stairs; push and pull carts and other kitchen equipment. Specific vision abilities include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This work is performed in a typical kitchen setting. The noise level is usually loud. The environment includes working in wet, hot, and cold conditions.
