Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Department of Accountancy and Business Law at the University of North Carolina Wilmington invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Practice position beginning in Fall 2026. This is a non-tenure-track professional faculty role, initially offered as a one-year contract with the possibility of renewal for longer contract periods.

The successful candidate will be a creative, innovative, and effective teacher capable of contributing to the school's undergraduate- and/or master's-level programs in Accounting. They are expected to teach seven courses (21 credit hours) per academic year and produce at least one publication every five years of employment. Additionally, the successful candidate will contribute to service (including, but not limited to, committee work; supporting departmental and college-level events related to the recruitment and placement of accounting graduates; supporting student organizations; and advising/mentoring students), research (including, but not limited to, presentations at meetings and conferences and publications in their field of interest), and impact activities (including, but not limited to, executive education involvement; building and maintaining relationships with industry partners; and alumni engagement) that positively enhance the Department of Accountancy and Business Law, the Cameron School of Business, UNCW, and the accounting profession.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Ph.D., DBA, or an equivalent terminal degree in Accounting or a closely related discipline from a nationally accredited institution at time of application.
  • In exceptional circumstances, a combination of advanced graduate education, relevant certifications or licensure (e.g., CPA, CMA, or CISA), and significant experience at the highest levels of professional practice may be considered in place of a terminal degree.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Preference will be given to candidates with:

  • Experience teaching a wide variety of accounting courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Relevant professional licenses and/or certifications (e.g., CPA, CMA, CISA, etc.)
  • Experience teaching at the collegiate level, preferably in both face-to-face and online environments
  • A distinguished career in industry or public accounting

Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Department of Accountancy and Business Law offers a concentration in Accountancy in the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, a minor in Accountancy and Business Law, and the Master of Science in Accountancy degree. The Master of Science in Accountancy program enrolls an annual cohort of 40-60 students and consistently achieves over 95% placement upon graduation. The Department also offers courses in Accounting and Business Law in the MBA program and is home to an active chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, an honor organization for financial information students and professionals
College/School Information
