Salary: The budgeted salary range for this position is $70,000 - $80,000 annually. Salary is commensurate with experience and is based on 9-month academic appointments paid over twelve months.

Position Summary

The University of Illinois Chicago's College of Business Administration invites applications for a full-time PDP (Professional Development Program) Lecturer to teach BA 100 - Introduction to Professional Development, BA 220 - Business Professional Development II, and BA 420 - Professional Presence, all required courses for CBA students, for a start no later than August 2026. These courses require a substantial number of sections each semester and are intentionally capped to preserve their experiential, improv-based format. Of particular interest are candidates with backgrounds in improvisational theater.

We seek candidates who can demonstrate a background in effective improvisation pedagogy and experience in higher education teaching. The Professional Development Program prepares UIC Business students for workplace success through an innovative professional development program that goes beyond the traditional classroom. Using improvisational techniques and experiential learning, faculty guide students in building essential soft skills-including teamwork, problem-solving, decision-making, and relationship-building.

The department values expertise in teaching improvisation to foster professional development skills such as teamwork, creative problem-solving, and collaboration. Candidates who can integrate these skills into their curriculum and support students' professional growth are highly preferred.

Non-tenure system faculty in the College of Business teach courses to undergraduate and/or graduate students in their field of expertise and provide service to the department, college, and/or campus. For more information, please visit our website at http://business.uic.edu.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teaching courses to undergraduate and/or graduate students
  • Teaching responsibilities for the current opening include various courses within the areas of Professional Development.
  • Candidates with experience or interest in teaching topics in these and related areas are encouraged to apply.
    Providing service to the department, college, and university
  • Contributing to the broader mission of the College through industry outreach, student engagement and activities, and professional development/scholarly activities
  • Performing other professional and/or academic activities and special projects as assigned


Minimum Qualifications

Requirements for the rank of Lecturer include a master's degree in a related field, evidence of teaching effectiveness, and demonstrated efforts in service

Preferred Qualifications
  • 2+ years of improvisation theater training/experience
  • Improvisation teaching/facilitation experience
  • Teaching experience in higher education preferred
