About the Job

The Clinical Partnerships and Program Data Coordinator for the Office of Teacher Education in the College of Education & Human Development provides clinical placement support for CEHD's early childhood and elementary teacher education program, as well as for the College of Liberal Arts Music Education program. The coordinator also supports the accreditation work of the Office of Teacher Education by coordinating the collection of data that monitors and demonstrates compliance with state requirements surrounding clinical experience and faculty qualifications. This position serves as a primary liaison between the university and partner schools, cultivating strong relationships to secure high-quality placements opportunities for teacher candidates. In addition, the role manages the collection, organization, and reporting of program data to meet state accreditation requirements. Working closely with faculty, staff, and school partners, the Clinical Placements and Program Data Coordinator develops efficient processes, resolves placement challenges, and supports continuous program improvement through data collection and sharing. The coordinator will report to the Director of School Relations and Clinical Partnerships.

This is a hybrid position. Any in-person work would be UMN Twin Cities campus or off-site work at metro area schools. The University of Minnesota encourages a healthy work-life balance for employees. Job Responsibilities:

Clinical Placement Management (40%)

  • Manage the clinical placement process for Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education.
    • Consult with licensure program leads and faculty to create a clinical support plan.
  • Secure field experience and student teaching placement sites.
    • consult with each licensure program lead to match teacher candidates to placements,
    • support undergraduate faculty with course-based field placement opportunities,
    • audit required cooperating teacher and placement criteria to ensure compliance with state rules,
    • request placement from school partners on behalf of the licensure program,
    • collect information from incoming teacher licensure students about their placement needs,
    • communicate placement status with program license leads, teacher candidates, cooperating teachers, and supervisors,
    • communicate district requirements and policies to teacher candidates,
    • support student to complete required background checks, and
    • communicate university/college policies related to teacher licensure programs to school partners.
  • Maintain accurate records of placements, mentor teachers, and partnership agreements in the unit's database.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with teachers, administrators, and district-level staff to ensure high quality placements are available to teacher candidates.
  • Ensure placement protocols, expectations, and policies are communicated to school partner administrators.
  • Visit school sites of current partner school sites and meet with district placement coordinators to ensure accurate communication regarding university and district requirements and expectations.
  • Ensure required communication to cooperating teachers about the following:
    • professional development in coaching strategies for adult learners,
    • the cooperating teacher's role,
    • program's expectations,
    • candidate clinical assessments in TEMS,
    • procedures,
    • policies, and timelines
  • Consult with both undergraduate foundations and M.Ed. lead faculty to support student experiences in schools.
  • Support LPLs as requested with orientation for students in regards to their field experiences and student teaching experiences and expectations.
  • Supports program areas and school partners with decision-making with struggling students in clinical placements.
  • Represent the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus at the annual state and quarterly regional Clinical Coordinator meetings with other institutions of higher education that prepare teachers.
  • Audit student progress at Checkpoint 2 prior to placing teacher candidates in final student teaching, documenting approval in the Teacher Education Management System (TEMS).

Clinical Placement Data Lead (30%)

  • Serve as lead system manager for the Teacher Education Management System (TEMS): Clinical application.
  • Create and provide synchronous and asynchronous training and support materials to faculty, university supervisors, cooperating teachers, and students regarding TEMS Clinical Assessments.
  • Troubleshoot and support individual faculty members, supervisors, and cooperating teachers when problems arise completing clinical assessments in TEMS.
  • Prepare reports that summarize clinical assessment data and work with the licensing and accreditation team to visualize and represent data for program review.
  • Monitor changes in state requirements regarding clinical experience evaluations and work with CEHD developers to ensure clinical assessments are updated as needed and remain in compliance with state mandates.
  • Work with the accreditation and licensing team to develop a process to improve interrater reliability and work with program faculty and supervisors to ensure interrater reliability for clinical assessments.
  • Manage and administer the clinical site survey to collect data on student experience in their clinical placements.
  • Create clinical site survey data reports for each program area.

Faculty Qualifications Data Lead (30%)

  • Manages faculty qualifications data collection and review to ensure unit compliance with state statute and PELSB unit rule.
    • Administer surveys and communicate directly with faculty and supervisors to collect updated faculty qualification information.
  • Review potential hires and current faculty to ensure compliance;
    • Support faculty search committees.
  • Collect all teacher education faculty, instructors, and graduate assistants' CVs and other required information annually for PELSB.
  • Update instructor of record reports, teacher education course reports and other related reports annually for all teacher licensure programs to create an accurate accounting of all teacher education faculty.
  • Maintain master faculty qualifications spreadsheet as required by PELSB.

Qualifications

Required:

  • BA/BS in education or related field with at least 6 years of experience.
  • Experience as a licensed teacher of record.
  • Knowledge of K-12 school culture and structure.
  • Strong technology skills including proficiency in Google Office Suite.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheet manipulation (Google Sheets or Excel).
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work flexibly and successfully within a changing context.
  • Evidence of effective communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills with people from a variety of backgrounds and identities.
  • Evidence of strong organizational skills.

Preferred:

  • Masters or doctoral degree in education or a closely related field.
  • Experience as a licensed elementary or early childhood teacher.
  • Recent PK-12 teaching experience.
  • Completion of state approved READ Act training or other experience in reading instruction.
  • Experience as a cooperating teacher to a pre-service student teacher.
  • Evidence of research skills and/or the use of data in decision-making.
  • Previous experience with survey creation and administration.
  • Knowledge of education professional programs, including teacher preparation and educator development.
  • Knowledge of the processes needed for accreditation and external program review.
  • Knowledge of academic culture or experience working in a higher education setting.
About the Department

The Office of Teacher Education (OTE) provides operational leadership and support across the university for the initial, additional, and alternative teacher licensure program area faculty, staff, teacher candidates, and cooperating school professionals. OTE works across the College and University in support of the teaching, research, outreach, and accreditation goals specific to the development of pre-service teacher candidates and school-based professionals in district/school clinical preparation partnerships. The administrative unit's overall goals are strengthening and continuously improving:

  • licensure advising and communication to support the retention of teacher candidates;
  • support for Licensure Program Leads and Clinical Supervisors of initial teacher licensure, endorsements, specialty and additional licensure programs;
  • new teacher/educator/liaison mentoring and clinical support with school partners;
  • clinical partnerships and placements of teacher candidates, including payments of cooperating teacher stipends and contracts; and
  • data collection for continuous improvement in teacher education, as well as for program accountability (PELSB) and unit approval for all initial and additional licensure programs.
