What Your Job Will Be Like

We are seeking a Test Operations Engineer in the Energetic Threats and Training department.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
  • Lead shipping and receiving of DoW, DOJ, and DOE gear shipment on behalf of 6646
  • Coordinate with OGA Operations Planners and represent the department for testing scope of operations for explosives tests
  • Create essential and non-essential personnel lists for each explosives test
  • Range and resource deconfliction between customer and site personnel
  • Coordinate with applicable corporate safety entities (e.g., RP) for each event
  • Conduct Site Safety requirements in accordance with corporate policy (e.g., Laser, Rad, and XPL)

Due to the nature of this work the selected applicant must bea ble to work onsite.

Salary Range

$87,400 - $168,800

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require

  • Bachelors degree in technical or business area; OR Associates plus four (4) years' experience; OR eight (8) years' experience
  • Experience coordinating, prioritizing and implementing efforts of integrated teams
  • Experience with corporate Engineered Safety principles and practices
  • Experience in Work Planning and Control Processes
  • Active DOE Q clearance or equivalent
Qualifications We Desire

  • Experience working with Law Enforcement or Military EOD personnel
  • Experience planning, conducting, and reporting of field and/or laboratory experiments involving high explosive and high-energy materials
  • Experience with curriculum development, planning, coordinating, and managing training classes or events
  • Experience in compliance with safety protocols, particularly as applied to explosive, high-voltage and security operations
  • Experience working in field test or training environments and facilitating field testing or training exercises
  • Communicate skills and ability to build effective and positive relationships with peers, partners and customers
About Our Team

The Energetic Threats and Training Department, was formed in 2007 to serve the nation's need for energetic threat assessment/mitigation and specialized energetics training. 5915 serves customers from DoD, DOJ, DHS, NNSA, and other customers. The department works seamlessly with the Energetic Systems Research Department to ensure continued mission success. The department operates out of site 9940 and also performs work at Thunder Range. 5915 designs and fabricates credible, inert models of real devices that are used for training exercises by first responders. Additionally, the department performs large scale threat demonstrations in addition to developing mitigation solutions for those threats. Many of the training events are conducted at Sandia and require the construction of realistic training venues, as well as, on site support for customers as they train.

Posting Duration

Security Clearance

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs
