The Director of Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) provides strategic leadership and direction for all HSE programs across Manufacturing, Distribution, R&D, Facilities, Commercial, and IT functions. The role ensures full legal compliance, strengthens sitewide risk management, advances a resilient HSE culture, and drives a unified HSE strategy that supports Alcon's operational goals and longterm business continuity at our facility in Fort Worth, TX - North. Specifics include:

Leadership:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for campuswide HSE performance, risks, culture, and strategic priorities.

  • Drive alignment of campus HSE programs with global strategies, regulatory requirements, and operational needs across all functions.

  • Partner with Fort Worth functional and site leadership teams to strengthen HSE culture, leadership accountability, and visible engagement.

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of HSE professionals, fostering technical excellence, accountability, and continuous learning.

  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives to enhance HSE culture, reduce injuries, and strengthen risk controls.

Implementation and Operations:

  • Ensure robust systems exist to maintain full compliance with federal, state, and local HSE laws, permits, and regulations.

  • Oversee compliance to all internal HSE policies, management systems, and global requirements.

  • Lead campus-wide programs for environmental compliance (e.g., waste, air, water, stormwater), occupational health, industrial hygiene, biosafety, chemical safety, machine safety, and emergency management.

  • Guide and support cross-functional leaders in HSE risk identification, risk reduction, incident investigations, CAPA development, and lessons learned.

  • Develop and track HSE goals, metrics, scorecards, and KPIs aligned with global expectations and local operating plans.

  • Manage the HSE budget responsibly, ensuring optimal use of resources.

  • Drive timely closure of audit findings, inspection actions, and risk assessment outputs within agreed timelines.

Key Performance Indicators:

  • All externally driven compliance requirements are met, as assessed by the appropriate external agencies during inspections, report reviews, analytical data reviews, or as assessed by internal compliance audits or inspections.

  • Full adherence to Alcon HSE policies, standards, and management system requirements.

  • Year over year improvement in leading and lagging HSE performance indicators.

  • Timely completion of all HSE reports required externally and internally.

  • Full implementation of an HSE management system which drives compliance with legal requirements, identifies and manages risks and builds the HSE culture as assessed by internal audits, certifying bodies or by the appropriate external agencies during inspections, report reviews, and/or data analysis.

  • All audit, inspection, and risk assessment related action items are closed on time and in a manner preventing recurrence.

  • HSE controlled budgets are delivered within target.
    Effective oversight and engagement of HSE associates, as assessed through feedback and skip level interviews.

  • Customer and management satisfaction with HSE program as measured through multi-rater feedback.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO ALCON:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +18 yrs; Assoc.+14 yrs; M.S.+7 yrs; PhD+6 yrs)

  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English

  • 10 Years of Relevant Experience

  • 6 Years of Demonstrated Leadership

  • Location: Onsite

  • Travel Requirements: Up to 10%
