THE POSITION

The PA Human Relations Commission (PHRC) is looking for an individual who will thrive in a fast-paced office environment and is organized, self-motivated, and has a welcoming attitude. We have an immediate opening for a Clerical Assistant 2 to provide administrative and clerical support within our Harrisburg regional office of PHRC.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The main function of this Clerical Assistant 2 position is to provide a full range of support functions to the PHRC Harrisburg Regional Office administrative, supervisory, legal, and investigative staff in order to expedite the mission of PHRC.

This position will take incoming calls from the public, answering questions about the complaint process, scheduling or rescheduling new appointments or transferring calls to the appropriate staff member. This position receives and logs incoming mail and emails and provides notice of receipt to the appropriate staff member. This position also handles all outgoing mail, including sending certified mail when needed and preparing complaints for formal service to parties. Additionally, this position will perform data entry tasks such as entering new cases, new inquiries, and new contacts into the case management system. Occasionally, this position will provide assistance to in-person visitors. This position will need to use software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams as well as PHRC's internal case management system. This position will need to operate office equipment such as a photocopier, scanner, printer, etc. This position will need to manage supplies and keep the office environment organized.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week.
  • Work Hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday-Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 2 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg, PA The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $36,108.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six months as a Clerical Assistant 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Graduation from high school; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
