Pediatric Acute Care Physical Therapist (PT)
The Pediatric Acute Care Physical Therapist provides comprehensive physical therapy services to infants, children, and adolescents who are hospitalized for acute medical, surgical, neurological, traumatic, or complex conditions. The PT works as an integral member of an interdisciplinary healthcare team to promote safe mobility, optimize functional outcomes, support development, and facilitate family education throughout the acute care stay.

Additional Information
* Location/Dept: Inpatient pediatric hospital setting including medical/surgical units, ICU, and specialty units
* Job Details: Full-Time; 40 hours/week - eligible for benefits
* Shift: May include weekends, holidays, or on-call rotation depending on department needs

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Care
* Perform comprehensive physical therapy evaluations addressing strength, range of motion, endurance, functional mobility, gross motor development, balance, and cardiopulmonary tolerance
* Develop and implement individualized, evidence-based treatment plans aligned with patient needs, medical status, and developmental level
* Provide interventions to improve mobility, prevent deconditioning, manage pain, support respiratory function, and promote participation in age-appropriate activities
* Safely mobilize patients with lines, tubes, medical equipment, and post-surgical precautions
* Assess equipment needs and recommend assistive devices, orthoses, positioning supports, or adaptive equipment

Interdisciplinary Collaboration
* Collaborate with physicians, nurses, occupational therapists, speech therapists, child life specialists, case management, and other healthcare professionals
* Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, care conferences, and discharge planning
* Communicate patient progress, recommendations, and concerns clearly and effectively

Family & Caregiver Education

* Educate patients and families on mobility, positioning, exercises, precautions, and equipment use
* Support caregivers in preparation for discharge and transition to home and provide recommendations for ongoing physical therapy services.
Documentation & Compliance
* Complete timely, accurate documentation in the electronic medical record in accordance with hospital policy, regulatory standards, and payer requirements
* Adhere to patient safety, infection control, and quality improvement standards
Professional Practice
* Maintain current licensure and required certifications
* Participate in departmental initiatives, education, mentoring, and performance improvement activities

Minimum Qualification Requirements

  • Education
    Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy required. Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) or Master's degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program strongly preferred.
  • Experience
    Required: None. Experience in pediatric acute care, pediatric inpatient rehabilitation, or PICU settings strongly preferred. Experience working with medically complex patients preferred. Familiarity with developmental care and family-centered practice preferred.
  • Licenses & Certifications
    Basic Life Support for Providers with at least 6 months prior to expiration
    Physical Therapist in Colorado
  • Additional Requirements
    License required after hire Credentialing must be completed by the Medical Staff Office (MSO) within 3 months of employment.

Salary Information
Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience. Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $78,659.24 to $117,988.86
