The Vice President, Strategic Initiatives & HR Business Partners provides strategic leadership for UCSF's HR Business Partner function and oversees the core delivery arm of HR across the organization.

This role is responsible for ensuring high-impact HR partnership with leaders across UCSF Health and Campus while advancing enterprise People & Culture priorities in a complex academic health system.

The Vice President will play a critical role in driving cultural and leadership transformation, strengthening leader effectiveness, and ensuring HR delivers a consistent, high-quality experience for leaders and employees across the organization.

As the leader of the HR Business Partner function, this role will ensure HR is highly strategic, data-driven, and customer-focused, aligning people strategies with organizational priorities and enabling leaders to build high-performing teams.

In addition, the Vice President will lead key enterprise HR initiatives that advance the modernization of HR service delivery and strengthen organizational effectiveness across UCSF.

Full-time, on-site position.

The salary range for this position is $169,400-$411,400 (Annual Rate) with an expected base annual rate of $350,000-$400,000. Placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Required Qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience leading HR Business Partner teams to lead and deploy talent strategies or equivalent related leadership experience.
  • Senior HR executive with deep experience leading HR Business Partner organizations.
  • Strong track record of driving culture change and leadership transformation in complex organizations.
  • Experience implementing data-driven HR strategies that improve organizational performance
  • Proven ability to influence senior leaders and drive enterprise initiatives.
  • Strong systems thinker who can connect leadership capability, culture, and business outcomes.
  • Advanced skills in strategy development, systems planning and change management.
  • Excellent ability to establish metrics for department and employee goals which measure effectiveness of contributions to efficient operations of department. Excellent leadership abilities to oversee multiple functions or departments through subordinate managers.
  • Excellent skills to work collaboratively and act persuasively in sensitive situations; skills in conflict management techniques. Demonstrated ability to handle extremely difficult or volatile situations / individuals effectively.
  • Able to interpret and communicate, both verbally and in writing, highly complex, and often highly technical information in a clear and concise manner. Excellent communication skills with a diversity of communication styles; may make oral or written presentations.
  • Advanced knowledge of organizational theory and ability to translate into practice and advanced knowledge of organizational consulting.
  • Advanced project management skills.
  • Skills in establishing and implementing customer service standards.
  • Ability and prior experience with studying large scale organizational problems through data analysis, observations and feedback to understand root causes.
  • Deep experience employing an evidence-based approach to talent solutions and workforce planning.
  • Excellent management skills that include collaboration, coaching and developing subordinates; ability to build relationships. Able to attract, develop, engage and retain staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute strategies to address an identified problem.
  • Ability to gain credibility with all levels of leadership. Ability to build trusting and productive relationships with peers and colleagues.
  • Experience and demonstrated success leading HR strategy in partnership with C-suite/senior executives.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree preferred.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
