Develops and / or oversees research proposals, awards, and / or transactions related to contract and grant management and maintains contract and grant records in compliance with institutional and research sponsor policies. Follows institutional procedures and practices when analyzing or reviewing financial information or reports.Under direct supervsion and guidance, the Research Financial Analyst I (RFA) will receive training and provide post-award financial management services for an assigned group of research faculty and their subordinates. Faculty portfolios are assigned to RFA's by the Research Operations Officer (ROO). Financial research portfolios are readjusted by the ROO as faculty members are hired, terminated and/or retired. The scope of responsibilities for this position will focus mainly on post-award financial management of a variety of sponsored extramural funds (federal, state, industry), start-up packages and research gifts. Other responsibilities include assisting and interfacing with RMS with the preparation of grant renewals and progress reports. Under direct supervision and guidance, the overall responsibilities for this position will include:- Preparation of financial management of assigned research accounts; - Play a significant, proactive and creative role in applying effective interpersonal skills and available technology to facilitate and expedite the integration, communication and coordination of all information and activities related to research administration in support of assigned Research Faculty. The incumbent will implement:- General ledger reconciliation and verification process, and purchasing and general administrative activities for his/her set of assigned funds. - The incumbent will initiate, process, and maintain subcontracts, consultants, vendor contract agreements under his/her portfolio; provide petty cash oversight (audits & policy updates).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Ability to learn and develop understanding of applicable federal, state, local, sponsor and institutional regulations, policies, and guidelines
  • Ability to learn and develop understanding of applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc.
  • Ability to thrive in a busy, high-volume, and deadline driven work environment that requires coordination of multiple activities and the judgment and flexibility to reprioritize to accommodate emergency requests. Detail oriented
  • Ability to perform routine financial analysis and reporting
  • Proficiency working with computer and information management systems
  • Organization and communication skills and customer service focus
