LOCATION OF (1) POSITION(S) TO BE FILLED: DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH, MONTGOMERY COUNTY HEALTH DIVISION, MONTGOMERY COUNTY

Qualifications Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with at least a bachelor's degree in Pharmaceutical Science. Necessary Special Qualifications: Licensure or eligible for licensure as a Pharmacist in the State of Tennessee. Licensure as a Pharmacist in the State of Tennessee is required in a reasonable time after employment. Overview Under general supervision, is responsible for professional pharmaceutical work of average difficulty; and performs related work as required. This is the entry-working class in the Pharmacist sub-series. An employee in this class performs professional pharmaceutical work in an institution or clinic in compounding and dispensing medication. This class differs from that of Pharmacist 2 in that an incumbent of the latter serves as pharmacy director at an institution, a Public Health pharmacy consultant, or in other assignments with greater responsibilities. Responsibilities
- Evaluates medication orders for compliance with laws/policies, proper indication, strength, frequency, and potential interactions or contraindications to ensure appropriate use of medications. May provide pharmacy consultations to patients or medical staff.
- Serves as a professional resource to various groups by providing drug information and communicates with pharmacists, medical staff, or others about potential medication-related issues. May provide guidance and direction to hospital staff or others as appropriate.
- Reviews medical records and/or consults medical staff to collect pertinent clinical information needed to provide comprehensive pharmaceutical services and submit appropriate orders for medications and vaccines. Reviews medication orders to ensure accuracy and appropriate quantities of medications needed.
- Creates and maintains patient profile records in the pharmacy computer system. Documents all medication errors, adverse drug reactions, and all other interventions that can potentially affect patient care and creates any needed corrective actions.
- Prepares a variety of standard records and reports pertaining to pharmacy operations, including inventory records, invoices, and filling of medication orders. May assist in maintaining the pharmacy budget by adhering to cost-containment strategies.
- Oversees the work activities of pharmacy technician staff to ensure work is completed timely and accurately. May schedule or assist in scheduling of training and work of other staff and inspect medication administration rooms and other areas to ensure proper storage of medications and equipment.
- May testify at the TN Board of Pharmacy and other hearings and serve on various committees regarding pharmacy issues. May participate in the formulation of pharmaceutical policies and procedures.
- Completes continuing education and other training as required by the TN Board of Pharmacy and hospital policy.
