Job Description Summary:
Enrollment and Student Success ( ESS) is a mission-driven organization providing a cohesive experience throughout all phases of the student lifecycle, from the admissions and enrollment process through graduation and beyond, by supporting a connected, comprehensive, and student-centered approach to the student experience. ESS includes the offices of undergraduate admissions, graduate enrollment, career services, student financial assistance, student success, student experience, student services, systems, and analytics. The ESS is committed to a student-first mentality, utilizing a data-driven approach to continuous assessment and improvement across the organization. Most importantly, our goal is to ensure an outstanding experience for students.

As part of the Office of Student Success, the Program Manager for Academic Success & Retention Programs plays a critical role in contributing to a university-wide commitment to improving overall retention rates and graduate rates at the George Washington University. Reporting to the Director for Academic Success & Retention Programs, this role will partner with members of the OSS leadership team to develop and implement a cohesive approach to strengthen retention and graduation rates and improve the student experience for undergraduate students.

Specific duties include the following:

Outreach & Intervention:

  • Collaborates with the Director for Academic Success & Retention Programs, coordinating across ESS offices and other campus partners to identify and support students who are academically at risk. Reaches out to students who are candidates for academic support through retention programs, such as Summer Academy and Just-in-Time outreach.
  • Provides detailed academic and college success advice based on best practices and internal campus knowledge. Supports advising for at-risk students as well as students seeking support through individual meetings and interventions, providing guidance, suggestions for improvement, and referrals as necessary.
  • Collaborates on the implementation of student outreach campaigns to at-risk students, students with registration holds, etc.


Collaborative Programming for Orientation, First Year Experience Courses, Scholar Cohorts, and General UG student population:

  • Provides collaborative wrap-around programming and support to Scholar Cohorts.
  • Collaborates with ESS teams on the implementation of new student Orientation and the First-Year Experience.
  • Develops and presents academic success and support workshops, curriculum, and pre-matriculation support programming to assist students in developing skills needed for successful academic experiences.

Programming:

  • Assist with the implementation of the Summer Academy Program by collaborating with the Director for Academic Success & Retention Programs. Includes reviewing supplemental curriculum, programming, and assessment.
  • Advanced registration support and coordination
  • Scholar Cohorts/Mentoring/Programming support
  • Academic Materials, Grant management, and support
  • Mid-Semester Course Support

Campus Engagement & Outreach:

  • Provides support to OSS leadership in outreach and training of university staff to promote awareness of factors impacting student success and retention initiatives to support best practices and to improve the student experience.
  • Collaborates with ESS and OSS colleagues on the development of surveys, using data-driven approaches to inform program responses;

Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with higher education program management, including curriculum development, first-year experiences, residential life programming, or related experiences, is a plus.
  • Prior experience with data analysis is preferred. A strong ability to translate data into a consumable format, whether visual or written, is desired.
  • Prior experience with software and tools for enrollment/retention efforts is a plus.
  • Strong ability to build and manage relationships, both internal to the university and with external partners, is preferred.
  • Ability to bring together individuals who may not have worked together previously to work toward a common goal. Actively pursues team collaboration.
  • Strong communication abilities.

Hiring Range $57,553.66 - $79,165.63
