The Retail Controller role is the Operational Accounting and Control leader accountable for overseeing, managing, developing, implementing, and maintaining necessary procedures, systems and reporting for the financial control for the Retail business segment. The Retail Controller is charged with safeguarding the company's assets, including automated systems; directing the preparation and analysis of financial statements; ensuring the implementation of adequate internal control systems; directing and managing cost accounting, global accounting and financial reporting for the Retail business. This position will work closely with the corporation's external auditors and is responsible to ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) as well as providing interpretations and recommendations on Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) directives. This role directly manages the US Retail accounting team.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/RESULTS



  • Manage global retail accounting in multi-national operations including GL, AR, AP, Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting, Revenue Recognition, B/S, Fixed Assets, CAPEX, Cash Flow and areas of accounting oversight.
  • Coordinate and direct the preparation of deliverables to the Parent Company from a historical accounting perspective.
  • Lead/Own timely completion of month-end close process and year-end close process including Annual Audit
  • Partner closely with Corporate, FP&A, Business/Group Finance Leaders, Treasury and Tax
  • Required to maintain accurate financial records by ensuring account reconciliations are performed on a timely basis & transaction due diligence.
  • Identify, track and report key financial and non-financial performance metrics; work with senior Retail team to analyze trends and identify changes to drive improvements.
  • Ensure compliance (GAAP), Investigate technical accounting matters to ensure compliance with both GAAP and IFRS.
  • Prepare technical accounting memorandums and accounting policies.
  • Analysis and implementation of new accounting standards
  • Ensure proper internal controls and corporate policies are in place; partner with key cross functional stakeholders to ensure compliance.
  • Develop processes and systems to scale with business growth, including documentation of policies and automation of procedures.
  • Support various cross-functional projects and initiatives within the organization.
  • Actively participate in working with internal and external auditors.
  • Prepare presentations regarding accounting, internal control, and other matters to Finance Leadership as needed.
  • Lead the accounting guidance for acquisition, integration and divestiture processes.
  • Support and perform financial due diligence for any acquisitions and divestitures.
  • Support and lead efforts with Corporate HR - 401K, Insurance, etc.
  • Lead and develop and build a high performing accounting team to scale rapid growth.
  • Recruit to attract best talent
  • Coach and mentor employees, hold regular one on one meetings and team meetings.
  • Establish clear and concise employee and departmental goals and objectives, aligned with business unit and company.
  • Hold employees and teams accountable to deliver results.
  • Other duties/responsibilities as assigned.



    JOB REQUIREMENTS

    Minimum Education, Certification and Experience Requirements

    Education



    • 4-year degree in Business/Finance/Accounting.
    • CPA/CMA certification preferred
    • Master's degree preferred.


    Experience



    • Previous experience as finance business partner.
    • 8+ years progressive experience in Accounting and Finance roles, preference in a retail environment.
    • 2-3 Years of Public accounting firm audit experience preferred
    • Working knowledge of tax code.
    • Experience with a fast-paced, always-on environment, can do attitude with ability to work independently and collaboratively
    • Technical and comprehensive knowledge of all finance and accounting areas of a retail business.
    • Retail and health care experience preferred.


          Knowledge / Technical Requirements



          • Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and key principles of application for a wide array of finance and accounting areas.
          • Strong knowledge and exposure to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
          • System savvy with POS/ERP systems
          • Oracle financial system knowledge.
          • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook and BI Reporting.

          The Controller Retail Finance will report to the VP of Retail Finance and work closely with other members of the finance team as well as business leaders throughout the organization.

          Salary and Other Compensation:

          The target pay rate for this position is between $148,500 - $202,000 annually. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include: geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

          This position is eligible for a bonus based upon performance results. There is no guarantee of payout.
