Description:
Performs fabrication projects as well as basic maintenance for aircraft equipment and components.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) and Ductless (DLS) Lab Technician will prepare and run development, performance, reliability, and functional testing on HVAC equipment according to the UL standards as well as internal standards to support the VRF/DLS Engineering team in Syracuse, NY as well as Indianapolis, IN and Atlanta, GA. This includes setting up, instrumenting, and testing of VRF and DLS products and accessories.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Fabricate and assemble testing apparatuses and ductwork to support testing and development of VRF and DLS products and accessories.
* Build, modify, install, HVAC units to be used in psychrometric testing, or decommission units after testing.
* Install thermocouples and other sensors in test units and install units in psychrometric test rooms
* Coordinate with engineers and lab technicians to change out components on HVAC unit
* Work closely with engineering and product teams to ensure continued product/market fit
* Accurately record and document test data utilizing data systems and database.
* Preforming electrical and mechanical modifications to test units and components.
* Control support equipment in test room to maintain temperature and humidity conditions.
* Able to anticipate and quickly adapt systems and practices to changes in customer requirements
* Finds the balance between producing high quality products and on-time delivery
* Ability to recognize and rebalance priorities as needed to keep entire team focused on important, high-value efforts
* Look for areas to improve processes and capabilities in the lab and follow through to implement those improvements.
* Assists with and leads the implementation and development of lab objectives and initiatives
* Understanding of HVAC product certification standards.
* Calibrate test equipment.
* Troubleshoot units or instrumentation issues.
* Tear down old units and sort materials for scrap
TYPICAL EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
* High School Diploma or GED
* Minimum of 2 years" relevant experience. (equivalent work experience will be considered)
* Refrigerant recovery certification EPA 608 Universal.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS:
* Two years HVAC or machine shop experience.
* Ability to install delicate test instrumentation.
* Good understand of basic electrical wiring.
* Experience working with combustible and pressurized gasses.
* Experience with basic hand and power tools, and other electrical equipment.
* Operate a fork truck and an overhead crane
* Proficiency in brazing copper preferred.
* Knowledge of refrigeration cycles, HVAC systems, its components and troubleshooting skills.
* Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, test data and test assignments.
* Basic skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
* Ability to communicate effectively, follow oral and written instructions.
* Ability to multitask and shift priorities with very short notice.
* Must be willing to work second shift on a temporary basis.
* Physical requirements lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
