POSITION SUMMARY: The Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) and Training Coordinator reports to the Director of Quality and is responsible for directing and overseeing the Environmental Health & Safety and Training Programs across the Summit Aviation, Inc. (SAI) enterprise. The coordinator operates in compliance with company safety practices and performs other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
EH&S Safety Program Management:
- Develop (as required), administer, and maintain SAI's EH&S programs in compliance with OSHA, EPA, FAA, and applicable federal, state, local, and contractual regulations.
- Develop and implement an industrial hygiene program to include the development and reporting of safety trends and other KPI's to leadership.
- Prepare and submit applicable federal, state, local, and contractual compliance reports. i.e.:
- OSHA requirements compliance
- OSHA 300 log
- Environmental compliance and reporting
- Waste disposal compliance and reporting
- Prepare for and support federal, state, local, and contractual regulatory inspections and audits (OSHA, EPA, FAA, DCMA as applicable).
- Develop and maintain Emergency Response Plans and conduct routine exercises to promote familiarity with the ERP's.
- Track and interpret regulatory changes; implement updates into company processes.
- Serve as the internal subject matter expert for hazard identification, risk assessment, and mitigation strategies.
- Lead and document Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and risk assessments for maintenance and manufacturing processes.
- Conduct routine facility safety inspections, audits, and compliance evaluations, tracking corrective actions to closure.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, labeling, and disposal of hazardous materials (HazMat) in accordance with regulatory requirements
- Lead investigations for incidents, near misses, and safety events, utilizing root cause analysis tools (e.g., 5-Why, Fishbone, A3)
- Promote a "just culture" safety environment encouraging hazard and near-miss reporting without retribution.
- EH&S orientation of new employees and coordinates EH&S training of current employees.
- Enforcement of PPE site requirements.
- Performs Incident and accident investigation and reporting.
- Ensures Subcontractor EH&S compliance monitoring.
- Conducts Quarterly Safety Council Meetings.
Training Program Management:
- Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive training program aligned with:
- FAA Part 145 requirements,
- AS9100 / AS9110 training and competency expectations,
- DCMA 8210, and
- OSHA-required safety training.
- Maintain the company's training matrix and qualification records
- Coordinate and/or deliver training in areas such as:
- Hazard communication (HAZCOM),
- PPE usage,
- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO),
- Fall protection, and
- FOD prevention and tool control awareness.
- Ensure all employees are trained, qualified, and current for assigned tasks
DIMENSIONS
- Manages SAI's EH&S and Training Programs, interacts with personnel at all levels of the company.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Must have a bachelor's degree in environmental health & safety, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 3-5 years of EH&S and/or training coordination experience, preferably in:
- Aviation maintenance (Part 145),
- Aerospace manufacturing (AS9100 environment), and/or
- Defense contractor environment.
- Working knowledge of:
- OSHA 29 CFR 1910 standards,
- EPA environmental regulations (waste handling, spill prevention, etc.), and
- Hazardous materials management and HAZCOM programs.
- Familiarity with DCMA AR 95-20, FAA Part 145 and/or AS9100 / AS9110 training and competency requirements.
- Experience with incident investigation methodologies and risk assessment tools.
- Strong organizational and program management skills.
- Ability to analyze data and drive actionable improvements.
- Effective communicator capable of training employees at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to influence without authority and drive cross-functional accountability.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
- Experience as a certified trainer/instructor in safety-related disciplines.
- Osha Administrator Certification required as well as consistent education as warranted by Osha requirements.
Physical Requirements: This position requires the ability to work in seated or standing positions for prolonged periods of time, perform office and clerical duties including use of office tools.
Working Environment: The working environment is corporate office facility and shop floor. Daily contact with employees in other departments is required.
