Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative Gene Editing Research Scientist to join our Gene Editing and Delivery team within the CGT department. In this role, you will be responsible for conceptually outlining studies, designing, and executing focused research projects or a series of complex experimental procedures. This includes the design, development, and testing of CRISPR-Cas gene editing tools in cellular models of disease. The ideal candidate will have the ability to design alternative approaches to achieve desired outcomes and will stay current on the latest scientific literature relevant to scientific methodologies and technical expertise. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in gene editing and delivery technologies, driving transformative advancements in addressing unmet medical needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and Execute Complex Experiments: Develop and conduct molecular biology, cell culture, and genomic analysis to evaluate gene editing outcomes for optimization and advancement of gene editing and delivery technologies.
  • Data Analysis and Interpretation: Systematically collate and interpret experimental data, synthesizing results into cohesive conclusions or actionable recommendations to guide project decisions and new research activities.
  • Advanced Troubleshooting: Perform advanced experimental troubleshooting to address technical challenges and ensure the success of research projects.
  • Incorporate Scientific Insights: Regularly review and integrate relevant scientific literature and emerging insights into ongoing research activities to maintain cutting-edge methodologies.
  • Innovative Research Approaches: Explore the feasibility of applying new scientific principles or validate novel experimental approaches and technologies to achieve project objectives.
  • Knowledge Dissemination: Prepare and deliver detailed study presentations, sharing experimental conclusions and insights at internal group, department, or project team research meetings.
  • Intellectual Property and Publications: Contribute to the preparation of patents and/or scientific publications to document and share research findings.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including computational sciences and preclinical development, to advance therapeutic projects.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with all regulatory and safety guidelines in the laboratory.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as assigned to support the team and organizational goals.

Qualifications:

Required Education Level:

  • Ph.D. (or equivalent degree) in molecular and cell biology, or related disciplines and 0-3 years of relevant post-doctoral employment experience, or
  • Master's degree (or equivalent degree) in molecular and cell biology, or related disciplines and 3+ years of relevant employment experience, or
  • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent degree) in molecular and cell biology, or related disciplines and 6+ years of relevant employment experience

Required Experience:

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with primary and immortalized cell culture, including cellular differentiation techniques.
  • Practical expertise in gene editing and delivery technologies, such as CRISPR/Cas9, lipid nanoparticle (LNP) systems, and viral-based delivery methods.
  • Proficiency in performing and analyzing advanced analytical assays, including high-content imaging and flow cytometry.
  • Hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques, including Western blotting, genomic DNA (gDNA) and RNA extraction, quantitative PCR (qPCR), and Nanostring technologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret and synthesize complex experimental data.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to effectively contribute to a multidisciplinary team environment.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills:

  • Experience with high-throughput screening and automation.
  • Experience with in vitro disease modeling using organoids or 3D engineered tissues
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements for gene editing in therapeutic applications.
