Position Summary
The Associate Architect role leads and manages architectural and interior design projects for UCLA Housing & Hospitality's Project Management team. This role reports to the Architectural Design Director, and is supported by the Architectural Associates. Projects include new construction, additions, renovations, modernizations, and repairs to student and faculty housing, dining facilities, hotels, and conference centers that are managed by UCLA Housing both on and off campus. Major responsibilities include: (1) identifying facility needs, developing project scope, schedule, and resource options for approved projects, (2) managing and preparing the appropriate design and documentation for the assigned projects, (3) presenting design concepts to the user groups using appropriate presentation and technical drawings, photos, and other visual methods, (4) diligently initiating, coordinating and following through on all consultant activities to ensure design adequately reflects user groups' needs, and (5) supporting construction administration to ensure work is executed in a continuous, prompt manner within the project budget. Act as in-house technical consultant to all H&H user groups with regards to design and construction. This position requires strong administrative, writing, and negotiation skills sufficient to take full responsibility and accountability in managing assigned projects.
Salary & Compensation

Qualifications
7 years of professional experience working in private practice, corporate and/or institutional settings, preferably with universities, colleges, or school systems. (Required) Architectural experience shall include multifamily residential, food service, and office projects, as well as Type I and Type V construction. (Required) Working knowledge of Green Building Design concepts and LEED rating systems. LEED AP credential preferred. (Required)Proficient in REVIT, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office Suite, and other project management and scheduling software. Skill in preparing effective graphic presentations, including 2D and 3D renderings and drawings, digital models, and finish material boards. (Required)Working knowledge of construction industry standards, safety standards, accessibility requirements, building codes, and California Administrative Codes. (Required)Working knowledge of Construction Administration practices, including review of RFIs and submittals, site visits, scheduling, and progress meetings. (Required)Working knowledge of all phases of design and project development, and skill in the planning, coordination, and preparation of drawings and specifications appropriate for each phase. (Required)Must possess and employ strong listening and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively through written reports and oral presentations. Must be able to speak articulately on a one-to-one basis or in small group settings, using appropriate grammar and vocabulary to diplomatically and assertively convey relevant information. (Required)Must possess superior time management and organizational skills with the ability to plan and pace work, to identify and resolve problems, commanding a complex and dynamic array of information in order to perform effectively within a fast-paced work environment. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with peers, department/University personnel, and the public. (Required)Ability to stand, climb, stoop, push, pull and crouch for an extended period of time and to lift items weighing up to 25 pounds as required when reviewing project assignments. (Required)Experience in project planning and management involving critical path analysis and scheduling to coordinate and prioritize workloads. Ability to coordinate project elements by determining the time, place and sequences of actions to be taken on the basis of analytical data. (Required)Working knowledge of University policies and procedures and ability to process documentation to accomplish various transactions. (Preferred)Ability and desire to convey a positive, professional, business-like appearance and attitude to all user groups, consultants, and colleagues. Interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively and tactfully with diverse departments/University personnel at various levels. (Required)Must have and maintain a valid California Driver's License. (Required)
Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited professional program in Architecture or related field; or the equivalent combination of education and experience. (Required) Must possess, upon hire, and maintain a valid CA noncommercial Class C License in accordance with the California (CA) Department of Motor Vehicles.
