The UC Irvine Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Resource Center (LGBTRC) provides a wide range of education and advocacy services supporting intersectional identity development. We foster community, wellness, an open and inclusive environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, intersex, transgender, queer, asexual, ally, and questioning students, faculty, staff, and the larger campus community. We strive to develop an atmosphere of acceptance and wellbeing in which the campus community can support the academic mission of the university.


Your Role on the Team

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Students in Student Life & Leadership, the Director of the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Resource Center manages a varied and complex set of services and co-curricular programs intended to advance knowledge of and awareness about UCI's diverse LGBT communities. The Director develops department goals and objectives, establishes budgetary and program priorities, identifies future resource needs, and recommends sources for the center. Specific responsibilities include administrative and policy interpretation, overall outreach, program planning implementation, and fiscal and facility management.

The Director supervises the LGBTQ+ Specialist, Transgender Care Specialist, Program Coordinator, and student support staff to assist in the overall direction of the center in response to the changing needs of an increasingly diverse student population and ensures the development of programs/services will foster an increased understanding of sexual orientation , romantic orientation, gender identity, gender expression and intersections of queer identity issues in society. The Director independently oversees day-to-day operations and determines goals and performance expectations of subordinates. Additionally, the Director makes recommendations concerning improvements of the center to the manager.


What It Takes to be Successful

Required:

  • Advanced knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
  • Advanced knowledge of Student Affairs / Student Life specialization.
  • Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance.
  • Advanced abilities in project management, problem identification and reasoning skills.
  • Advanced ability to develop original ideas to solve problems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of student development theory, LGBT identity development, leadership development, group dynamics, emerging trends in LGBT programming, and management theory and proven ability to apply information in decision making and problem-solving situations.
  • Dynamic leadership and vision working with multicultural students and student organizations in a higher education setting; demonstrated success in promoting a strong sense of commitment to diversity and diversity issues.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and oral.
  • Ability to provide support, advocacy, crisis intervention and appropriate referral information, using discretion, confidentiality, and understanding of campus policy.
  • Program organization skills, including proposal and budget preparation, publicity, marketing and evaluation.
  • Understanding of University administrative organizations, policies, procedures and practices.
  • Ability to effectively handle and complete multiple ongoing projects in an environment characterized by frequent interruptions.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and deliver assessment projects and reports.
  • Significant and directly related university program, activity, and management experience.
  • Direct experience conceptualizing, organizing, directing, and advising major campus projects and programs
  • Supervisory experience with full-time career and part-time student staff.
  • Superior customer service and interpersonal capabilities.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Preferred:

  • Advanced knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs and knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.
  • Master's degree preferred.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $71,600 - $99,500 (Annual).
