Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Division of Institutional Advancement advances a culture of philanthropy through the engagement of alumni, faculty, staff, students, parents and friends (both individually and in the corporate community) in support of the Institution's mission of preparing students to become global leaders and practitioners who transform communities. By using creative strategies to enhance the University's image, the office promotes the overall mission of North Carolina Central University to its external publics in order to solicit and acquire philanthropic support.
Primary Purpose of Position
North Carolina Central University Division of Institutional Advancement seeks an experienced team member to guide the Corporate and Foundations platform of NCCU. Working in close partnership with both internal and external stakeholders, the Director of Corporate & Foundation Relations will develop and execute a comprehensive plan to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward corporate and foundation prospects and donors. The Director will implement corporate and foundation grant strategies to meet or exceed goals and expand philanthropic support.
The successful candidate will serve as the leading author for most grant proposals and will take the lead in building strong relationships with the corporate and foundation community in the Research Triangle area and beyond.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to develop and secure compelling proposals, grants, and reports across multiple disciplines.
  • Five to seven years of grant management, institutional fundraising and corporate partnership experience, preferably in the higher educational sector. Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively, work well under pressure, and manage details of several concurrent projects. Experience using reporting tools, design software, and donor management software.
  • Proven track record in fostering professional relationships with corporate and foundation program officers and staff, managing a dynamic portfolio of prospects and donors; Demonstrated success in portfolio management, prospect qualification, analytics, and research.
  • Proven self-starter capable of making sound, ethical, independent judgments. Success working on teams to develop high-level proposals with funding opportunities across disciplines.

Minimum Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree required, master's preferred.
  • 7+ Years of Fundraising with a demonstrated focus in Corporate and Foundation Relations.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties


Function Public Service
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.

  • Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward public and private corporations and regional and national foundations for the purpose of securing gifts or grants for NCCU's institutional priorities, academic programs and initiatives.
  • Ensure the timely development, submission, and management of grant and sponsorship proposals including event sponsorships for signature programs, and applying best practices for tracking, acknowledging, stewarding, and reporting to our institutional partners.
  • Directly manage a portfolio of corporate and foundation 50-75 funders including key existing and prospective donors on a range of programs and services pertaining to NCCU to create cases for support.



Function Coordination - Operations

  • Manage relationships with institutional supporters by providing updates, organizing meaningful site visits, and participating in meetings, calls, and events that advance these vital relationships.
  • Works collaboratively with administration, faculty, development officers, academic and athletic programs, research centers and institutes to enhance relationships with the goal of securing and increasing philanthropic support.



Function Administrative
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.

  • Conduct prospect research while implementing the effective use of contact management systems and processes to track pertinent corporate and foundation donor and prospect information in Raiser's Edge, including regular data entry for all corporate and foundation donor contacts, research, and analytic reporting.
  • Manage the newly established corporate partners program to ensure partners are actively engaged and receiving established benefits.
  • Directly manage a portfolio of corporations and foundations, including key existing and prospective donors on a range of programs and services pertaining to NCCU.
