Job Summary

Under minimal supervision, the Editor assumes full project management responsibility to perform all editorial functions-including story development, writing feature-length and short-form stories, line editing, content management system tasks, copyediting, and proofreading-for digital and print publications on a variety of topics.



Major Job Responsibilities

    Writes and edits stories for Getty magazine and Getty's digital platform, News & Stories, in a wide range of genres and at all levels of complexity; conducts interviews with Getty staff, subject matter experts, and members of the local arts community, and works with them to ensure all copy is fact-checked and aligned with Getty's institutional priorities

  • Creates and manages the weekly Get Inspired newsletter

  • Write and edit copy as needed for the Marketing team, Getty's Advancement department, and Trustee communications

  • Upload and manage content within Getty's content management system for publication on News & Stories, as needed

  • Works with the Rights Coordinator and other colleagues to ensure that artwork images and photos can be acquired and published according to copyright rules and agreements

  • Provide ad hoc support to Editorial team members across a range of projects and tasks.



Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in the humanities (preferably in English, journalism, or art history)
  • At least 5 years of relevant writing and editing experience, preferably including 3 years in an arts environment


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience writing feature-length stories in a journalistic style
  • Copyediting and proofreading skills; knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style
  • Familiarity with art history
  • Ability to juggle multiple writing assignments and deadlines
  • Experience working with content management systems
  • Facility with Photoshop a plus
