Position Summary

Responsible for assisting the Head Coach in the management and administration of the Division 1 Men's Basketball intercollegiate sports program.

Duties/Responsibilities



  • (60%)
    Coach practice sessions and workouts. Assist with coaching responsibilities during athletic events.

  • Coordinate, plan and implement recruiting territories for staff members

  • Schedule recruiting trips for the staff and coordinate on-campus recruit to visits.

  • Schedule and lead weekly recruiting meetings with coaching staff.

  • Maintain and update the recruiting database and recruiting board.

  • Assist coaching staff in meeting the objectives of the university and team, including the evaluation, contact, and establishing relationships with prospective student-athletes, parents, and coaches.

  • Attend coaches' preparatory meetings and implements strategies resulting from these meetings.

  • (20%)
    Scout for and recruit quality student-athletes and coordinates recruiting activities with the Head Coach and Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Program.

  • Ensure student-athletes have a comprehensive and functional knowledge of the sport and maintains thorough and continual familiarity with all applicable University, OVC and NCAA rules and regulations.

  • Formulate the team's competitive game schedule in cooperation with the head coach and athletic director. Offer game contracts with the assistance of the athletic director

  • (15%)
    Assist student-athletes in the implementation of the academic program, including the monitoring of individual student-athlete progress to ensure academic eligibility, the enforcement of study and tutorial programs, and the referral to appropriate University academic resource personnel.

  • Work with student-athletes and monitors adherence to rules and regulations for conduct, appearance, and behavior.

  • Participate in promotional and public relationship events deemed necessary to the Head Coach, Director of Athletics and/or their designee including fundraising events.

  • (5%)
    Work closely with athletic training staff and Team Physician to provide for the safety and health of student-athletes.

  • Participate in the University's public relations activities, including print, television and radio interviews, and news conferences.

  • Participate in annual continuing education as required by the NCAA, Conference and/or Institution is required.

  • Adhering to all NCAA, Conference, and Institutional rules and regulations is required at all times. All violations must be reported to the Senior Associate Director of Athletics, Director of Compliance or their designee immediately.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Head Coach.


Required Knowledge and Skills



  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

  • Familiarity with OVC and NCAA rules and regulations.

  • Proficiency with computer systems, word processing, spreadsheet, database, electronic mail, and Internet software.

  • Excellent verbal, written, organizational, management and administrative skills.

  • Positive communication, marketing and public relation skills.

  • Proven ability to work effectively with student-athletes, faculty, alumni, and administrative staff.


Preferred Knowledge and Skills

Master's degree.

Related playing, coaching, and athletics administration experience.

Fundraising experience and ability.

Functional Requirements

Frequent extensive physical activity at athletic events and practices to oversee activities and to interact with athletes, officials and attendees.

Remaining in a stationary position at a desk or work station for extended periods of time for a number of assigned duties.

The use of computers and computer systems (hardware and software) to enter data, to retrieve and process information and to create documents.

Frequent physical assess other workstations, other departments, meeting rooms and athletic facilities throughout campus, as well as to local, regional, and national venues.

Ability to retrieve information from written documents and from computer-generated reports.

Positive interaction at all times with students, athletes, and athletic event officials and attendees.

The presentation of a consistently professional demeanor at all times, even in difficult, negative or frustrating situations.

Regular Work Hours/Travel Requirements

Standard office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.

Frequent irregular hours including evenings and weekends required.

Frequent travel required to the local and regional area.
