| Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
ASOD Finance has the overall responsibility for developing, planning, monitoring, and managing the personnel, non-personnel, and operating budgets of the Adams School of Dentistry. |
| Position Summary |
The Associate Dean of Finance provides senior-level fiscal management, coordination, and planning for financial operations of the School, Carolina Dentistry, and the Dental Foundation of North Carolina. The position advises the Dean and Senior Associate Dean of Finance and Administration on all matters relating to finance, budget planning, and resource allocation. The Associate Dean of Finance supervises the School's financial accounting, patient business services, clinical accounting, research administration, and Dental Foundation of North Carolina accounting teams, and is responsible for all accounts payable, accounts receivable, account management, budgeting, and funds allocation; and oversees state, clinical, unrestricted, grant, contract and endowment, and foundation funds. The position assures compliance with regulations and policies related to School, University, State, and relevant Federal business practices and standards. |
| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
An earned terminal degree, record of exceptional leadership success, and evidence of scholarly, professional, or creative achievement is required. |
| Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Demonstrated advanced knowledge of the concepts, principles, and practices of financial strategic planning, budget development, accounting, forecasting, and analysis is required. In addition, successful candidates must possess: excellent interpersonal skills and writing skills; the ability to inspire and develop people, the ability to collaborate with all levels of University personnel, the ability to translate and present complex financial information to a wide variety of audiences, including senior management and those without a financial background; demonstrated problem solving skills; initiative to resolve issues; and excellent analytical skills. Basic knowledge of Governmental Accounting Standards (
GASB) and (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
GAAP is required. |
| Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Experience with PeopleSoft Enterprise Risk Management a plus. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office software programs, i.e. MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS Power Point, MS Outlook, or comparable software programs preferred. |

| Campus Security Authority Responsibilities |
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities. |
