Lathrop GPM, one of the nation's leading law firms, has an immediate opening for a Conflicts Attorney in our Minneapolis, MN, or Kansas City, MO. The Conflicts Attorney is responsible for identifying, analyzing, and assisting with resolution of legal and business conflicts of interest related to new clients, new matters, and lateral attorney hires to ensure compliance with ethical rules and firm policies. This role works closely with members of the Office of the General Counsel (OGC), the Professional Responsibility Committee (PRC), the Director of Intake, and attorneys and legal administrative staff. Responsibilities include drafting conflict waivers, implementing ethical walls, and conducting legal or business research, and providing professional responsibility support, as needed. The Conflicts Attorney supports the firm's risk management and professional responsibility functions by performing duties including: * Develops and maintains in-depth knowledge of ethical rules and rules of professional responsibility applicable to conflicts of interest, including issues arising from lateral attorney hiring and new client or new matter intake; * Reviews and analyzes new business intake submissions to identify, mitigate, and resolve actual or potential conflicts of interest including drafting conflict waivers and implementing ethical screens as appropriate; * Consults with attorneys, OGC staff, and PRC members on conflicts-related issues, including engagement letters, conflict waivers, ethical walls, and firm policies. * Reviews outside general counsel guidelines and non-standard engagement letters for alignment with firm policies. * Conducts research using internal systems and external resources to identify relevant information regarding prospective clients, related parties, and matters; * Performs legal research and prepares written analysis on professional responsibility matters or other questions of law requested by the Assistant General Counsel, General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel, or PRC Members. * Provides administrative and organizational support for PRC and OGC initiatives, including maintaining engagement letter templates, waiver and ethical screen templates and lists, workflow tracking, and related resources and informational materials. * J.D. required. * Experience in a legal or conflict environment required. * Must have experience in drafting conflict waivers, and reviewing/negotiating Outside Counsel Guidelines. * Must have skills in analyzing conflict of interests relating to new client business and lateral attorney candidates. * Knowledge of conflict of interest principles, including the ability to utilize research tools such as: Dun & Bradstreet, Lexis, Hoover's, Edgar, Elite, Intapp and be able to interpret the data produced by those systems. * Strong interest in legal ethics and a strong knowledge of the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct. * Must be able to apply the laws of professional responsibility in identifying and resolving actual and potential conflicts of interest. * Ability to identify and understand party relationships in various types of legal transactions (including corporate, litigation, bankruptcy, labor & employment, tax, and estate planning matters) and define relationships within the conflict of interest system. * Determine when it is appropriate and/or necessary to escalate an issue to General Counsel. * Well-developed and professional interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively with people at all organizational levels of the firm. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. * Strong problem-solving skills. * Experience with Intapp or similar platform. * Experience tracking status of work-flows. Current anticipated salary range for applicants as required by applicable state law in MN is $127,000 - $158,000 depending on experience, actual salary will vary and may be above or below the range. Full comprehensive benefit plan including health care, retirement plan and paid days off, including PTO, parental leave, and short/long term disability.
