Position Identification:
Exempt
Reports to: Operating Unit President
Salary: $60,000+ Dependent on Experience

Position Summary:
  • The basic function of the Estimator is to prepare cost estimates for roofing projects and services and submit bid to contractors and private clients.
  • Responsible for soliciting the projects to be bid and tracking the number of bids sent out each which including revenue and contract margin of each bid. Responsible for understanding the current market situation and providing accurate bids to those clients defined by the Operating Units as suitable prospects. This person is expected to submit accurate bids to customers and follow up on all outstanding bids.
  • Responsible for handing off all proper documentation including estimate by cost codes, scope of work, man hours, and all information as defined by the handout sheet.
  • Will be crossed trained and assist in Project Management


Job Functions:
  • Analyzes which bids will benefit the company and which bids will not.
  • Utilizes bid log to track own bids and total bids closed.
  • Ensures processes are followed from pre-bid until handoff meeting.
  • Drafts letters to General Contractors, private clients, and other customers.
  • Solicits feedback from team to develop methods for better quality control.
  • Analyzes blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
  • Assesses cost effectiveness of products, projects or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops.
  • Consults with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments or construction foremen to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
  • Confers with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
  • Prepares estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling.
  • Prepares estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors.
  • Reviews material and labor requirements, to decide whether it is more cost-effective to produce or purchase components.
  • Prepares cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals for the duration of the project.
  • Prepares and maintains a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors.
  • Sets up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures.
  • Assists team members as needed
  • Performs any other duty or task assigned by the Operating Unit President.


Knowledge, Skills & Experience (Essential):
  • Roofing and/or construction experience is preferable, but not necessary as training will be provided.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office as well as strong math aptitude.
  • Jobsite visits are a mandatory part of this position
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Must be able to climb ladders on a repetitive basis.

  • Identification and reporting of health and safety risks, accidents, incidents, injuries and property damage at the workplace

Physical surroundings: Office and job site
Physical Effort: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, climb ladder, bend, kneel, type, and talk or hear. The employee is also required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel.
Travel : 10-20%
