GENERAL FUNCTION

At LensCrafters, we are passionate about the health and wellbeing of our patients and customers. We've expanded that passion to Surgical Clinics where we can provide even more specialty eye care and services in the neighborhoods we serve.

This role leads and supports a team of technicians to ensure high-quality and efficient surgical operations. It combines leadership with hands-on clinical duties, including staff training, surgical preparation, and patient care oversight. The position ensures consistent excellence in ophthalmic procedures across multiple surgical centers. On non-surgery days, the team member supports general preparation, administration, and other assigned duties within the Clinic.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Leads and supports a team of technicians, ensuring high performance, consistency, and adherence to clinical and sterile standards.
  • Maintains knowledge of the responsibilities and technical skills of the technician team; coaches and develops members as needed.
  • Provides hands-on training, mentorship, and skill development for Technicians within their location and nearby centers to ensure best practices and clinical excellence.
  • Checks supplies and equipment for surgical procedures and ensures all regional centers properly manage their stock.
  • Reviews charts pre-op for consent, H&P, relevant medical/surgical/ocular/contact lens histories, and documentation of pre-op medications and allergies.
  • Reviews charts post-op for intraoperative record accuracy, medications, follow-up schedules, and discharge instructions.
  • Supports medical and pre-/post-op patient care on non-surgery days.
  • Oversees and occasionally performs:
  • Preparing and maintaining sterile fields, instruments, supplies, and equipment for procedures.
    * Verifying surgical plans, implants, and instruments with the surgeon and clinical director.
    * Assisting surgical team with gowning, gloving, draping, and passing instruments using strict sterile technique.
    * Monitoring patient ID, positioning, and physiological status during procedures to ensure safety and comfort.
    * Observing for adverse reactions to medications or anesthesia and reporting concerns promptly.
    * Supporting safe patient transport between pre-op, OR, and post-op areas.
    * Cleaning, sterilizing, restocking instruments and equipment; assisting with OR turnover.
    * Ensuring compliance with infection control, aseptic technique, and safety standards.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS



  • Relevant experience in a medical, surgical, or optical environment
  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Strong basic math skills
  • Must have a strong command of the English language for all written correspondence & oral communication
  • Committed team player
  • Dedication to detail and process
  • Proven ability to problem solve


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS



  • Relevant medical or surgical certifications/degrees
  • Strong knowledge of basic optics
  • State licensure (if applicable)
  • Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) &/or Certified Ophthalmic Executive (COE)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
