POSITION SPECIFICS

The Academic Digital Education team within theCollege of Agricultural Sciencesis seeking an Instructional Designer to implement all aspects of designing, developing, and managing online course portfolios.

The key responsibility of the Instructional Designer is to partner with faculty to ensure online course content and assessments enhance learning and support student success. This involves the evaluation of online lesson content and assessments using knowledge of digital pedagogy, best practices, and research.

Specific tasks include (but are not limited to):

  • Provide consultation and partnership to faculty in the development, design, and integration of innovative instructional structures, solutions, delivery methods, and assessment strategies for online asynchronous credit courses.

  • Assess faculty instructional needs; establish appropriate instructional goals and learning objectives.

  • Research and apply pedagogical principles, learning theories, and emerging academic and technology trends in the design of instructional systems to ensure a high quality, collaborative, and adaptable learning experience.

  • Assess and select instructional media, new technologies, and software systems to aid in course design and delivery.

  • Partner with faculty to author course objectives, course content, assignments, learning resources, documentation, and assessments.

  • Collaborate with faculty to design outcomes assessment strategies; establish processes and procedures for data collection, data reduction, and data analysis.

  • Collaborate with the design team to improve course platforms and functionality.

  • Act as the project manager for courses in development to monitor progress; determine, set, and ensure others on the team adhere to schedules and deadlines.

  • Ensure that all course content follows copyright and accessibility standards.

  • May supervise staff members, including hiring, development, and performance management.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced knowledge of learning theories, best practices for online learning, and current research in the field.

  • Ability to draw from the above knowledge in their course design, reviews, and recommendations.

  • Outstanding project management skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with team members and faculty partners, as well as being comfortable delegating work to others.

  • Experience with Canvas or another learning management system.

  • Experience with accessibility standards and tools.

  • Creative problem-solving and a passion for innovative teaching solutions.

  • Basic multimedia knowledge and an understanding of graphic design principles.

Depending on the experience and qualifications a candidate brings to the position, starting appointment will be as an Advanced Professional or Senior Professional Instructional Designer.

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $56,200.00 - $89,600.00.
