Summary:

The Heart Center at Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas, is seeking to add an additional full-time pediatric cardiac intensivist. The incumbent will join a group of nine physicians that currently provide full-time coverage to our busy cardiac intensive care unit.

The candidate should be either board certified/eligible in pediatric critical care with significant experience or additional training in cardiac critical care; or board certified/eligible in pediatric cardiology with additional fellowship training in pediatric cardiac intensive care. The optimal candidate will have at least 3-5 years of experience following training.

The Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Cook Children's Medical center is a 14-bed, dedicated cardiac intensive care unit, with an additional 14 bed step down unit where the candidate will join a multidisciplinary team of specialist caring for children with congenital heart disease. A full spectrum of pediatric critical care is practiced within the unit, and the ideal candidate will have solid clinical and interpersonal skills.

The Heart Center at Cook Children's Medical Center continues to show yearly growth.

There are 450-500 cardiac surgeries, approximately 500 cardiac catheterizations, and over 100 EP studies performed annually. A comprehensive heart failure and transplant program has just been launched.

Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) required.

  • Unrestricted Texas Medical license.

  • Must have successfully completed an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Medical Association (AMA) approved residency for pediatrics.

  • Must be board certified/board eligible in one of the following areas: Pediatric Cardiology or Pediatric Intensive Care, with a minimum of 3-5 years' experience preferred, but not required. Pediatric subspecialty training relevant to cardiac critical care is essential.

  • Must possess full component of ICU skills (vent management, central & arterial line insertion, ECMO, care of neonates with CHD pre- and post-operatively, care of the adult patient post-op from CV surgery, care of the post-op cardiac transplant patient).

  • Must have a proven track record in collaborating with all members of the Cardiac Intensive Care team (CT surgery, Cardiology, Nursing leadership, PICU, NICU).

  • American Heart Association BLS and PALS (must obtain prior to start date).
