ThePedsMed/SurgUnit(Unit 1A/2A) atDuke University Hospital isthe recently constructed DCT1A2A Pediatric Unit at Duke University Hospital is comprised of two 17-bed pediatric Medical/Surgical Units. The units are a mixture of intermediate patients and step down patients who need less monitoring than those in the critical care units, but more monitoring than those on the medical or surgical units. The newly renovated units offer spacious accommodations and activity rooms for patients and their families. Ideal candidates would embrace family centered care along with a multidisciplinary approach to patient care. There are ample opportunities to become involved with committees focused on process improvement and patient experience.

Work Schedule:

Full Time:3,12 hourshifts. 7a/7p, Day/Night rotating.36 hoursper week.

What you will do:

As aClinical NurseI in Duke University Health System, you will plan and provide professional nursing care for patientsin accordance withthe medical and nursing plans of care and established policies and procedures. Provide nursing services to patients and familiesin accordance withthe scope of the RN as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.



  • Plan, provide and document professional nursing care,utilizingthe nursing process,in accordance withphysician orders and established policies and procedures under the supervision of the team leader or charge nurse.





  • Delegate tasks and supervise the activities of other licensed and unlicensed care providers.





  • Assistother healthcare personnel in the delivery of patient care.





  • Participate inmaintainingthe environment of care including equipment and material resources. Prioritize work organization andidentifyresources available toassistin completing components of carein a timely manner.





  • Participate in own professional development bymaintainingrequired competencies,identifyinglearning needs and seekingappropriate assistanceor educational offerings.





  • Support the development of other staff and formal learners.





  • Participate in the identification of clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities andassistin performance improvement activities.






  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work describedherein.

  • Multitask in myriad ways - document assessments, plan of care, interventions, evaluation and re-evaluation of patient status, access nursing needs of acute andchronically ill patients, independently seek out resources and work collaboratively.Educate patients and familiesin accordance withthe nursing plan of care. Relationship management with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, physicians,administrators,leadershipand others.

What you will need:



  • Graduation from an accreditedBachelor's Degree in Nursing(or higher) ORAssociate'sDegree in Nursing OR Nursing Diploma program.



***All registered nurses without aBachelor's degree in Nursing(or higher) will berequiredto enroll inan appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and to complete the program within seven years of their start date.


Licensure and Certification Required:



  • Current registration with North Carolina State Board of Nursing as a registered professional nurse OR current compact RN licensure to practice in the state of North Carolinarequired.





  • BLS Certification required
