Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Data Analyst (Systems Programmer/Admins) for the School of Graduate Studies. This position will provide the overall vision for data needs in relation to all School of Graduate data initiatives and projects. The Data Analyst will work closely with the SGS Sr Leadership Team providing overall direction and management for the gathering, compiling, analyzing, interpreting, and reporting of data.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Designs data modeling and analysis services to mine various systems and applications, builds, deploys, and maintains data support tools, metadata inventories, and definitions for database file/table creation.
  • Develops lasting technical solutions through the application of appropriate analytic tools, including Tableau and Excel, with a focus on effective integration and sustainability.
  • Produces data visualizations that provide insight into dataset structure and meaning.
  • Engages with the Dean of SGS to provide timely program KPI dashboards for graduate education and collaborates with the University Registrar and SGS degree certificate team to report on enrollment, attrition, and completion metrics, as well as with the SGS student support team to provide reporting on time-to-degree and funding.
  • Develops policies, best practices, and system documentation in support of numerous big data initiatives.
  • Helps drive a culture of continuous quality improvement through reporting that enhances decision-making.
  • Investigates and performs QA on user issues.
  • Conducts training and technical briefings for staff.
  • Oversees and maintains data warehouse infrastructure, including patching, optimization, and audit review of critical data systems.
  • Serves as liaison between SGS staff and Rutgers Office of Information Technology on matters related to data-related software purchases and SGS implementation of an updated website and its ongoing maintenance.

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Math, Engineering, Business Administration, Computer Science or related field and a minimum of five (5) years of experience in information services.
Certifications/Licenses
  • A valid driver's license would be required for this position.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated experience utilizing a variety of data visualization tools and methods to create graphs, charts, timelines, maps, dashboards, infographics, etc.
  • Ability to demonstrate interpersonal skills working in a service-orientated environment.
  • Effective written and oral communication.
  • Established organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office product, including MS Excel, Visio and Project.
  • Ability to work independently or in teams.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision using a wide degree of creativity and discretion.
  • A mastery of programming language and understanding of operating systems.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to comprehend the unique business and operational constraints and needs and resolve those challenges.
  • Deep understanding of application products built on both local and cloud managed platforms which include Oracle and Microsoft SQL server.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Information Services experience in a Higher Education environment.
  • Experience with data visualization software such as Tableau, D3.js, ggplot2 or Gephi.
  • Experience with statistical packages such as STATA, SPSS or SAS, or experience with geospatial analysis software.
  • Master's in Education degree (M.Ed) or Doctor of Education degree (Ed.D.) with strong quantitative research skills.

Equipment Utilized
  • The position will utilize database and data analysis tools (e.g. Tableau) to understand, analyze and report on data.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Ability to travel to all RU-NB campuses.
  • Many buildings have stairs.
  • Visual acuity to perform activities such as viewing a computer terminal, reading, analyzing written information/data, etc.
