Summary:

Provides strategic and operational leadership across financial planning, actuarial analysis, and risk economics for CHRISTUS Health's Health Plan and risk-based care entities. Partners closely with executive leadership to support margin sustainability, pricing integrity, reserve adequacy, and enterprise risk management across Medicare Advantage, ACA Exchange, and other risk-bearing lines of business. Serves as a key integrator between Finance, Actuarial, Medical Economics, Strategy, and Operations, ensuring financial integrity, regulatory compliance, and data-driven decision-making in a highly regulated healthcare environment.

Responsibilities:


  • Meets expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  • Lead long-range financial planning, including multi-year forecasts and scenario modeling to support health plan sustainability and growth.
  • Direct actuarial and medical economics strategies to inform pricing, benefit design, network strategy, and risk mitigation.
  • Advise executive leadership on financial implications of market expansion, product strategy, and value-based care initiatives.
  • Oversee external actuarial vendors, ensuring quality, alignment, and delivery against organizational expectations.
  • Lead annual budgeting and rolling forecasts, integrating actuarial assumptions such as trend, utilization, and acuity.
  • Monitor financial performance against plan, identifying key drivers including medical cost trend, risk scores, and membership mix.
  • Deliver executive-level reporting and dashboards to support governance, board engagement, and strategic decision-making.
  • Direct analyses of claims trends, utilization, reserves, risk adjustment, and margin performance to guide business strategy.
  • Establish and enforce actuarial and financial governance, including methodologies, assumption management, and model validation.
  • Partner with compliance and regulatory teams to support rate filings, financial disclosures, and actuarial documentation.
  • Evaluate financial risk and return to support pricing, contracting, and enterprise decision-making.
  • Lead, develop, and mentor finance and actuarial staff while driving alignment on financial and actuarial priorities across stakeholders.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Education/Skills


  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Actuarial Science, Economics, or related field required
  • Master's degree (MBA, MS, or equivalent) preferred
  • Advanced financial modeling, forecasting, and scenario analysis required
  • Strong understanding of healthcare economics, actuarial principles, and risk adjustment concepts required
  • Executive level communication and presentation skills required
  • Ability to translate complex analytics into actionable business insights required
  • High integrity, sound judgment, and attention to detail required

Experience


  • 8 years of progressive experience in healthcare finance, actuarial, medical economics, or risk-based environments required
  • Demonstrated experience supporting executive leadership with complex financial and actuarial analyses required
  • Prior leadership experience managing professional teams required
  • 5 or more years of leadership experience highly preferred
  • Experience in health plans, managed care, Medicare Advantage, ACA, or other regulated payer environments preferred

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications


  • Actuarial credentials (ASA, FSA, or progress toward credentials) strongly preferred

In accordance with the CHRISTUS Health License, Certification and Registration Verification Policy, all Associates are required to obtain the required certifications for their respective positions within the designated time frame.
