Job Title: Editorial Writer (Copywriter IV)

Duration: 6 months with possible extension

Position will start at 20 hours/week with possibility of up to 40 hours/week down the line

About the Role

The Design at Client community is pioneering technologies to bring people closer together, and our teams share in the responsibility of doing it at global scale. Our teams design and build Client technologies - for billions of people around the world.

The Design at Client editorial team develops, produces and curates content for all design-related publishing channels at Client, including a website (Client.com/design-at-Client) and social media channels (@DesignatClient) that celebrate our global product teams, their work across Client technologies and how we collaborate around Client's mission to build the future of human connection and the technology that makes it possible.

We are looking for an editorial writer to collaborate with our editorial team to tell compelling human-centered stories that synthesize complex and often technical ideas into easily digestible and clear short- and long-form written content that informs, inspires, and entertains our global audience of designers and design-enthusiasts.

You should be able to work collaboratively on concurrent projects, deliver high-quality work on tight deadlines, and adapt to quickly changing demands. You love new challenges and can jump into nearly any situation and contribute meaningfully. Experience writing about design and technology is strongly preferred.

Whether you're a journalist, content marketer, content designer, writer, editor, copywriter or something in between and have experience writing about the field of design, if you're passionate about the intersection of design and tech, we want to hear from you.

What You'll Do:

  • Collaborate with Design at Client's editorial team to develop compelling, human-centered stories and campaign-ready messaging for a global external audience of designers and design-enthusiasts
  • Write, edit, and publish long-form content (e.g., profiles, explainers, Q&As, newsletters) in partnership with Client authors and subject matter experts across the company that makes complex and technical design work clear, engaging, and accessible
  • Craft sharp short-form copy that performs on social, including headlines, post copy, captions, hooks, and in-asset/onscreen text-tailored to the voice, specs, and best practices of each platform
  • Partner with the broader publishing team to adapt long-form narratives into platform-native social packages and website updates, ensuring consistency across channels while optimizing for context and audience intent
  • Help identify timely opportunities and shape them into editorial concepts with clear angles and takeaways
  • Bring strong editorial judgement and social awareness, including anticipating how content may land in different regions and moments, and making thoughtful recommendations in response to changing news cycles and global events
  • Maintain high editorial standards for quality and consistency with brand guidelines while helping to evolve our voice and tone across all platforms and formats



What we're looking for:

  • A portfolio demonstrating excellent writing and editing across formats, including long-form articles, newsletters, Q&As/explainers, and short-form copy such as headlines, social posts, captions, and in-asset text
  • Proven ability to adapt voice, tone, and style for different audiences and contexts, ensuring brand consistency in platform-native writing (e.g., Instagram, Threads, Facebook, web/blog) without losing an author's voice
  • Strong editorial judgement and the ability to shape raw ideas into clear narratives, spot gaps or risks, and improve structure, clarity, and flow
  • Flexibility and comfort working across multiple content types, pivoting between projects, and adapting to quickly changing priorities, strategies, and demands
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional partners and navigating feedback cycles (including Legal/Brand review) while maintaining quality and momentum
  • Comfort editing and coaching non-professional writers and subject matter experts to produce publishable work
  • Excellent organizational skills and reliability, including the ability to manage multiple drafts and deadlines, work autonomously, and communicate proactively
  • Ability to synthesize complex or technical ideas into clear, accessible content for a broad audiences
  • Passion for how stories can inspire and inform the design community
  • Experience with (or eagerness to learn) AI tools to streamline content production workflows to scale capacity and agility



Bonus points:

  • Experience identifying and addressing opportunities to improve systems and workflows that help editorial teams plan, review, publish, and measure content more effectively
  • Experience writing about design, technology, or creative communities - Familiarity with analytics or using insights to refine content and packaging
