Provides direct management to typically a small to medium-sized team of advanced practice providers or other allied health professionals while continuing to spend the majority of time providing direct patient care as a Nurse Practitioner.

Essential Functions Performs all essential functions of a Nurse Practitioner, providing direct patient care.
-Directly oversees and is accountable for the performance of a team of APPs and/or other direct reports.
-Hires, performance manages, and completes performance appraisals for a team of APPs and/or other direct reports.
-Orients, trains, and schedules staff.
-Assists with quality assurance programs as needed to help implement quality improvement efforts.
-Ensures continuing education and teaching for APPs.
-Acts as liaison between the hospital, physician and nursing staff, and other APPs.
-Ensures APPs are following proper billing compliance rules and methodology.

Education
Master's Degree Nursing or Physician Assistant Studies required

Licenses and Credentials
* Currently licensed as a Nurse practitioner or Physician Assistant

* Current Federal & Massachusetts licensures to dispense controlled substances

* For nurse practitioners, certification as an Addiction Registered Nurse Advanced Practice, or agreement to get certified within 12 months of hiring is required

Experience

* 5 years' experience providing advanced practice level medicine care.

* Effective at leading change, building and leading teams.

* Expertise in executing new programs and clinical operations.

* Ability to mentor, manage and lead within all levels of the organization.

* Effective communicator with the ability to transfer knowledge, orally and in writing.

* Computer skills to support administrative and clinical tasks, to include EHR & Microsoft Office applications.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

Patient Care Responsibilities:

* Maintains direct patient care weekly in PSAS clinical services.

* Performs duties and responsibilities of an advanced practice nurse or certified physician assistant with expertise in Addiction care.

Supervises and coordinates the work of inpatient and outpatient advance practitioners in PSAS to provide the highest quality of care to patients and meet the goals/needs of the program:

* Interviews and hires new staff in collaboration with PSAS administrative and physician leaders.

* Ensures all advanced practitioners are appropriately credentialed and licensed.

* Establishes and/or maintains orientation and training materials appropriate for each role group and in accordance with regulatory requirements. Provides competency-based orientation for all new staff.

* Provides coaching and evaluates performance, completes annual evaluations, and ensures competency and ongoing compliance with job requirements and standards. Develops and implements remediation and corrective action plans when needed.

* Develops APP staffing patterns, required personnel complements to meet the needs of the patient population, and APP scheduling.

* Is accountable for ensuring coverage plans for scheduled and unscheduled leaves of absence and vacation.

* Directs the development and implementation of professional development programs for advanced practice staff, using established and newly created mechanisms.

* Leads regular advanced practice staff meetings to ensure priorities & goals, regulatory requirements, new policies & procedures, and training are communicated and shared.

* Attends team rounds regularly.

Collaborates and communicates with physician, nursing, and administrative leadership:

* Participates in strategic planning, priority-setting, decision-making, fiscal planning, and process improvement efforts related to PSAS.

* Participates and leads development/enhancement of existing and future clinical programs and implementation of process improvements.

* Plans, directs, and participates in regularly scheduled meetings to share information and problem solve with PSAS personnel.

* Collaborates with nursing and hospital educational resources to facilitate learning experiences for staff.

Contributes to management/leadership discussions/efforts:

* Participates in the planning of PSAS, including but not limited to operational, clinical, and fiscal design with a particular focus on clinical operations and workflow for advanced practice staff.

* Participates in Operational problem-solving regarding staffing models, support structures, coverage models, and needs assessment.

* Meets regularly with physician, nursing, and administrative leaders regarding specific patient populations/needs, and innovations.

* Participates in manager meetings and institutional committees as appropriate.

* Acts as a liaison for communication of APP specific topics to unit and departmental physician and administrative leadership.

* Participates in departmental operations meetings for planning, innovation, and coverage model considerations moving forward as needed.

* Manages all APP staff to enhance and progress the goals of the program, the division and the department.

* Attend relevant multidisciplinary rounds at MGH as needed to advance addiction care.

* Serve as a local subject matter expert, including delivering educational content and training as needed.

* Assist with scheduling and ensure supervision for APP trainees.

* Attend system HRO rounds when SUD goals are on the scorecard at MGH, and other sites as needed based on direction from the Director or Associate Director of PSAS.

* Assist with implementation of quality improvement interventions at MGH to meet MGB goals, including managing patient surveillance workflows as needed.

* Assist with other PSAS clinical leadership needs as requested.

Provides effective patient-focused advanced practice care.

* Sets standards for clinical care provided by Nurse Practitioners and Physicians Assistants; monitors, measures and advances patient care; serves as an exemplary provider handling the most complex cases and advising staff as needed.

* Assists the staff in the provision of care using, but not limited to, the philosophy of PSAS, MGH, the Division of General and Internal Medicine, and Joint Commission standards of care.

* Maintains competence in Addiction advanced practice care, serving as a clinical role model to staff.

* Provides direct patient care to assigned patient population

* Promotes an environment that is sensitive to the culturally diverse needs of patients and staff.

Hospital Resource

* Participates as an active member of the MGH APP Leadership Council

* Increases PSAS footprint through system wide committee and leadership opportunities

* Participates in problem solving and innovative opportunities for growth of the APP community, recognition of staff.

Working conditions:

* Local travel to Mass General Brigham sites may be required.

* This role is hybrid but requires the ability to be in person for administrative time as needed.

* Work is performed in an acute care hospital setting. The work may require the lifting of heavy objects and patients, as well as exposure to potentially infective material. Work requires contact with needles and other sharp instruments, monitoring devices, and other state-of-the-art

equipment. Prolonged standing can be expected. Walking to and from the patient care units can be expected.
