Job Description

Johnson County Government's Department of Health and Enviornment is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Phlebotomist. This position will remain open until filled with the first review of candidates beginning on May 8, 2026.

Responsibilities include:

    Informing and preparing patients to have blood drawn various laboratory test and completing blood draw on adult or pediatric patients.
  • Ensuring all safety and hygiene protocols are followed, including the use of gloves, proper disposal of needles, and sanitizing work areas.
  • Accurately labeling collected blood samples with patient information to ensure correct identification for testing.
  • Ensuring blood samples are stored correctly and transported to the laboratory in a timely manner to maintain sample integrity.
  • Entering information about the blood draw and patient details into the medical records system accurately as allowed by scope.
  • Regularly checking and maintaining phlebotomy equipment, such as needles, tubes, and other necessary tools, to ensure they are in good working condition.


Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • A current certification such as CNA, Medical Assistant (MA), or Phlebotomy Technician (PBT - ASCP)
  • At least one year of experience entering patient information or working with data accurately
  • A valid driver's license and ability to travel locally as neededStrong attention to detail and ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strong communication and people skills
  • Ability to stay organized, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience with phlebotomy specimen collection and processing
  • Bilingual in Spanish
  • Experience working with reports, data, or basic analysis
  • Background in healthcare, public health, or a related field
  • Experience coordinating projects or supporting team operations

Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions. Specified criteria may vary by Department/Agency.

This position requires successful completion of a tuberculosis (TB) test as a condition of employment.

For certain roles, proof of immunizations (MMR, Tdap, Varicella) may be required within 60 days of hire
