THE POSITION

As a Transportation Construction Inspector Supervisor with the Department of Transportation, you will lead inspection work that keeps highway projects in District 12 moving in the right direction. This job brings together teamwork, problem-solving, and a strong commitment to quality. You will guide crews, check project progress, and help ensure safe and successful construction. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position leads inspection work on transportation construction projects and ensures that all activities meet required plans, standards, and specifications. As a Transportation Construction Inspector Supervisor, you will perform the following duties:

  • Project Oversight: Supervise field inspection activities and guide operations on assigned construction projects
  • Material Review: Check materials and workmanship to ensure compliance with contracts and standards
  • Technical Guidance: Explain requirements, direct testing and inspection methods, and resolve field issues
  • Documentation Work: Prepare sketches, reports, records, and work order information to support project needs
  • Team Leadership: Plan, prioritize, and evaluate the work of staff while supporting training and development
  • Safety Focus: Promote safe actions, monitor contractor practices, and address unsafe conditions immediately

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • You will work closely with vendors and work hours may change based on vendor availability.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, on an ad-hoc basis. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Uniontown. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Transportation Construction Inspector (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of construction inspection experience and an associate's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Condition of Employment:

  • This position requires possession of a valid non- commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
