Responsibilities

Job Summary
The Network Director, Laboratory Services is responsible and accountable for the leadership and operations of all laboratory services within HonorHealth, including hospital laboratories, ambulatory sites and future patient service centers and Core laboratory. Collaborates with operational Vice Presidents and Pathologists to integrate and standardize operations and facilities to ensure adequate support for EMR initiatives, research and population health management strategies. Collaborates with AVP/VP to establish objectives and evidence-based standards to ensure safety, high quality and cost effectiveness. Actively participates in supporting the vision, values and critical goals of organization. Provides continuous leadership and direction for the strategic, operational, clinical, financial and administrative functions associated with laboratory services and continuously identifies efficiency and growth opportunities.
Essential Functions
  • Employee Engagement and Customer Support Encourages and promotes development for department personnel and develops a long term succession plan Conducts routine meetings and updates with Lab Leadership and staff. Actively seeks out feedback and continually works on employee engagement initiatives.
  • Oversee the staff and ensure adequate staffing levels, inclusive of hiring/onboarding, evaluating, managing performance, coaching and developing employees ensuring employee productivity, quality of work, and alignment of goals with our mission, vision, and values. Ensure compliance with all policies, financial stewardship by being accountable for the financial integrity around development and maintenance of department budget.
  • Provides effective leadership and oversight of Lab operations, standardization and integration of laboratory operations across the network. Manages the Laboratory operations in accordance with HH policies along with regulatory and accreditation organization requirements. Initiates, develops and implements laboratory projects to meet corporate and laboratory strategic initiatives. Ensures that the necessary laboratory systems are in place to maximize quality, safety and efficiency of inpatient and ambulatory services. Provides leadership, guidance and support to Laboratory leadership and staff. Assesses leadership performance and initiates adjustments to compensation and positions. Initiates and actively participates in coaching, mentoring, and corrective action for laboratory leadership and staff. Facilitates staff development to align with organizational goals. Provides direction and support for resource management including oversight for direct report responsibility. Administers an effective professional recruitment strategy to assure adequate numbers of qualified Lab Leadership, Medical Technologists, Lab Assistants, Phlebotomists and support staff. Collaborates in the development and maintenance of effective business support processes including product contracting, selection, procurement, inventory management, utilization and billing. Collaborates to develop and implement programs and processes to improve physician, customer and staff satisfaction. In conjunction with the Pathologists, establishes standards of quality, productivity and performance. Monitors a comprehensive and effective quality assurance program including quality control, preventive maintenance, safety program, data, material management and quality of service with emphasis on process improvement. Formulates short and long range goals for the clinical laboratory. Projects future needs for service, space, equipment, material, revenue and personnel. Determines, establishes, implements and evaluates short and long range financial management Develops, implements and reviews departmental operating policies and procedures in accordance with organization policies and procedures and requirements of regulatory agencies. Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies and appropriate licensing/accrediting agencies including CLIA, CBC, OSHA, CAP, AABB and FDA guidelines in areas of service, personnel and facilities.
  • Financial management: Collaborates with Lab Leadership to coordinate the development of the annual Laboratory budget and Capital plans to align with network goals. With hospital department leadership, analyze laboratory expenditures routinely to identify emerging new technology trends and new program volumes that may impact budget performance. Identify program initiatives that may impact the laboratory budget and incorporate into the annual budget process. Ensure cost-effective purchasing procedures, contract compliance, proper billing, and efficient and secure distribution of laboratory supplies. Collaborates with corporate Procurement Department. Analyze financial and operational reports and develop corrective action plans with operational AVP/VPs. Evaluate new testing and technology and provide leadership to assure that reagents, consumables and kits are used in the most cost-effective manner. Acts as the liaison to the medical staff to provide updated laboratory information regarding cost, utilization and change in reimbursement. Assists the organization to develop strategic financial plans to optimize revenues and minimize expenses. Quality Assurance and Education: Develop and maintain an effective quality monitoring and improvement plan for laboratory services. Maintain and review quality assurance measures to promote safe and appropriate test management. Establishes liaisons with regional schools of Laboratory Medicine and Phlebotomy to support student training programs and foster a learning environment for laboratory services. Provide for an effective staff orientation and training program, utilizing competency based criteria as required by accrediting agencies. Strategic Planning: Collaborate with AVP/VP/SVP to develop a strategic plan for laboratory services and update this plan on a regular basis. Develops annual operational goals and objectives for laboratory services. Collaborates with operational VPs and Pathologists to achieve. Assesses the healthcare environment, identifying opportunities for improvement and participate in the strategic planning and development of annual corporate goals. Provide necessary support required to achieve corporate goals as identified or requested by the accountable executive. Plans and coordinates growth of Laboratory Services ensures support for staffing, staff development, resources, equipment, and ambulatory services. Plans, evaluates and implements laboratory technology and information support systems to continuously improve the efficiency, safety and effectiveness. Plans and evaluates opportunities for centralization of services.
Education
  • Master's Degree in Business, Administration, Healthcare, or related field
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Administration, Healthcare, or related field - Required
Experience
  • Other Progressive healthcare leadership experience (preferably in Lab Services) of 10+ years - Required
Licenses and Certifications
  • Lab\ASCP - Medical Technologist MT (ASCP) Certification - Preferred
