What to Expect
Tesla's Supplier Industrialization team is responsible for critical component development and qualification activities at suppliers. This role will lead a team of cell SIE responsible to develop, qualify, scale up and optimize manufacturing and quality system for Battery cell manufacturing. In this role, you will work closely with many organizations both internal and external to Tesla, taking new battery cell designs from initial concept through into full production. The battery cell is a critical component in Tesla vehicles and storage systems. This role will have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to our products. The work environment is demanding, fast-paced and incredibly exciting. The ideal candidate should be ready to push their limits, as they join in highly motivated and capable team to make unbelievable things into reality.

What You'll Do
  • Develop, qualify and oversee battery cell manufacturing process end to end (from upstream mixing & electrode manufacturing to downstream finished good cell testing and shipping)
  • Lead, coach & mentor team of cell SIE responsible for supplier cell manufacturing readiness, process qualification & solving process, quality and production ramp issues
  • Guide team & suppliers on process development, optimization & design for manufacturability to mitigate risks ensuring design is mass manufacturable
  • Drive team & suppliers for Critical to Quality (CTQ), Critical to Process & Critical to Safety (CTS) controls implementation & monitoring
  • Lead development & implementation of IQC, IPQC and OQC at supplier sites ensuring incoming product at Tesla is defect free
  • Lead failure analysis & corrective actions for cell inline, OQC, performance and next customer IQC failures
  • Drive validation of supplier corrective actions involving design, material & process changes to ensure they are robust, sustainable, and implemented for similar potential concerns across manufacturing lines and/or suppliers

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Material Science Engineering discipline and 5+ years of experience in cell manufacturing (Pouch/Prismatic/Can type cells), or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated experience in developing cell manufacturing processes, qualifying & scaling to volume with suppliers
  • At least 2 years' experience in a people management role & proven track record to build and lead a strong team
  • Working knowledge of cell design & performance requirements and relationship to cell manufacturing process
  • Experience in a manufacturing setup handling Measurement system analysis, SPC (Cp/Cpk analysis, Control Plans, FMEA & OEE)
  • Excellent team building skills in dealing with suppliers, peers, and other functional areas
  • Demonstrate take-charge attitude, be able to work independently & set the team's priorities based on competing and urgent needs
  • Strong technical writing ability and able to explain complex issues in a concise and plain manner
  • Ability to travel at short notice, domestic & international up to 25%

      Expected Compensation
      $112,000 - $246,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

      Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
