Description
The Facility Maintenance position is responsible for maintaining the overall condition, functionality, and safety of buildings and facilities at Ellwood Texas Forge Navasota. This role performs light maintenance, supports environmental compliance activities, assists with facility improvements, and helps ensure a safe and professional work environment across administrative and production areas. This position requires a hands-on individual comfortable working in a heavy manufacturing environment and supporting a variety of facility-related needs. Building & Facility Maintenance
- Perform light maintenance and repair of buildings and facility infrastructure
- Replace interior and exterior lighting (LED fixtures, bulbs, ballast where applicable)
- Perform minor plumbing repairs (leaks, faucets, toilets, fittings)
- Repair doors, locks, hinges, handrails, and general hardware
- Maintain breakrooms, restrooms, and office spaces in good working condition
- Perform painting, patching, and basic carpentry work
- Assist with floor markings, signage installation, and facility labeling
Office & Administrative Area Support
- Assemble office furniture, cubicles, shelving, and storage systems
- Move desks, cabinets, and office equipment as needed
- Assist with office layout changes and workspace setup
- Install whiteboards, bulletin boards, and wall-mounted equipment
Environmental & Compliance Support
- Collect and record data for environmental monitors on retention ponds
- Assist with stormwater compliance checks and inspections
- Support environmental documentation and recordkeeping
- Monitor facility drains and report potential compliance concerns
- Assist with waste handling and recycling coordination
Equipment Operation & Material Handling
- Operate forklift to move materials, furniture, and maintenance supplies
- Load/unload facility-related shipments
- Transport tools and equipment across plant locations
- Maintain organized storage of maintenance materials
Grounds & Exterior Maintenance
- Support basic grounds upkeep and facility appearance
- Assist with drainage issues and minor erosion control
- Maintain walkways, signage, and parking lot areas
- Support seasonal facility preparation (freeze prep, hurricane/storm prep, etc.)
Safety & Continuous Improvement (Trending Responsibilities)
- Support facility safety initiatives and housekeeping standards (5S)
- Identify and report facility-related safety hazards
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts for facility operations
- Assist with energy efficiency initiatives (LED upgrades, usage tracking)
- Help maintain emergency equipment (eyewash stations, signage, etc.)
- Support contractor coordination and escorting when needed
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- 2+ years of facility maintenance, building maintenance, or similar experience preferred
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, and electrical (lighting level) repairs
- Forklift experience preferred (or ability to become certified)
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks
- Strong attention to detail and safety awareness
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Frequent walking throughout plant and office areas
- Ability to climb ladders and work at heights
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to operate forklift and basic maintenance equipment
Work Environment This position works in both office and heavy manufacturing environments. Exposure to noise, heat, dust, and moving equipment is expected. Appropriate PPE is required.
