Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required; performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision. Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team.

Responsible for maintaining the knowledge and abilities essential to the performance of stated behaviors. Carries out legal responsibilities within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act. Accountable to the NURSE SVC SUPV 2 for overall work performance.

Required Qualifications:

  • Possession of the legal requirements to practice as a Registered Nurse as determined by the California Board of Registered Nursing
  • Minimum of two (2) years of RN clinical experience in an Emergency Department setting
  • Current Emergency Department RN experience
  • Flexibility to orient and work at UCSF Saint Francis Hospital and St. Mary's Emergency Departments
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of the position

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) certification
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience with Cerner electronic medical record system

Licensure and Certifications:

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of California
  • Current healthcare provider CPR certification
  • Current healthcare provider Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
  • Current healthcare provider Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification

Salary Information


The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.


Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
