OVERVIEW As a Senior Quality Control Inspector, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and reliability of components used in Veeco's advanced semiconductor equipment. This position is heavily focused on precision dimensional inspection, CMM programming and operation, and the hands-on use of advanced metrology equipment to validate complex machined parts, electro-mechanical assemblies, and subassemblies. The successful candidate will possess strong expertise using Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs), calipers, micrometers, height gauges, indicators, bore gauges, pin gauges, thread gauges, and other precision measurement tools to verify conformance to engineering drawings, GD&T requirements, customer specifications, and industry standards. You will work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Supplier Quality teams to ensure only conforming product enters the manufacturing process while supporting new product introductions and continuous improvement initiatives. This role is well suited for inspectors and metrology professionals who have developed expertise in CMM programming, dimensional inspection, and precision measurement within environments such as custom machine shops, CNC machining operations, aerospace suppliers, semiconductor equipment manufacturers, medical device manufacturers, precision contract manufacturers, tool and die operations, or other high-precision manufacturing organizations. - Perform detailed incoming inspection of purchased components, machined parts, fabricated parts, electro-mechanical assemblies, and subassemblies using CMMs and a broad range of precision measurement equipment.
- Develop, maintain, and execute CMM inspection programs to verify dimensional compliance to engineering drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.
- Conduct dimensional inspections using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges, indicators, pin gauges, thread gauges, and other metrology equipment to verify critical product characteristics.
- Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and GD&T requirements to validate product conformance.
- Verify received materials conform to specifications through visual, dimensional, and functional inspections; reject discrepant or nonconforming materials to prevent their use in production.
- Maintain control of nonconforming material, including documentation, segregation, system transactions, and disposition activities.
- Accurately document inspection results and maintain quality records to support traceability, audits, and compliance requirements.
- Partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Supplier Quality teams to investigate quality issues, support root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
- Support supplier qualification activities, first article inspections (FAI), process audits, and new product introduction programs.
- Ensure compliance with quality procedures, engineering specifications, and applicable industry standards, including ISO 9001.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma and a minimum of 6 years of quality control inspection experience in a manufacturing environment required.
- Associate degree in a technical discipline preferred.
- ASQ certification or equivalent quality certification preferred.
- Demonstrated experience performing dimensional inspections of precision machined components and assemblies.
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience operating CMM equipment and performing dimensional inspections in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Experience within custom machine shops, CNC machining organizations, precision contract manufacturers, aerospace and defense suppliers, medical device manufacturers, semiconductor capital equipment companies, precision component manufacturers, or other high-precision manufacturing environments is highly desirable.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Extensive hands-on experience operating, programming, and troubleshooting Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs).
- Advanced proficiency using precision measurement and inspection tools, including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges, indicators, thread gauges, pin gauges, depth gauges, and similar metrology equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to accurately inspect tight-tolerance machined components and complex assemblies using both CMM and manual inspection techniques.
- Strong understanding of dimensional metrology principles, measurement techniques, tolerance analysis, inspection methodologies, and measurement uncertainty.
- Proven experience inspecting precision machined parts, assemblies, and subassemblies to engineering drawings, specifications, and industry standards.
- Advanced ability to read, interpret, and inspect to engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T requirements.
- Experience creating and maintaining CMM inspection programs and utilizing inspection data to support product acceptance decisions.
- Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001 quality systems and manufacturing best practices.
- Experience using SAP or similar ERP/material management systems.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively across functional teams.
- Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and commitment to product quality.
