Position Summary
The Diesel Technician B is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy-duty and light-duty diesel equipment to ensure safe and reliable fleet operations. This includes mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, brake, suspension, and engine systems, as well as alternative fuel technologies. This role may also involve welding and fabrication work depending on shop needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and brake system issues
- Perform preventative maintenance on diesel and alternative fuel vehicles
- Review and complete repairs from DVIRs and work orders
- Utilize diagnostic tools and computerized vehicle systems
- Follow factory service manuals to complete accurate repairs
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and drivers regarding vehicle status
- Complete all repair documentation accurately and on time
- Conduct safety inspections on vehicles and equipment
- Maintain a clean, safe, and OSHA-compliant work environment
- Support and mentor assistant technicians and shop helpers as needed
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of diesel engine systems and heavy truck repair
- Experience with suspension, brake, electrical, and hydraulic systems
- Ability to use diagnostic software and interpret service manuals
- Ability to estimate labor time and materials for repairs
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- CDL Class B preferred or willingness to obtain within 12 months
- Commitment to safety, reliability, and professionalism

Other Job Responsibilities
Participate in all company-sponsored training, safety programs, and development courses as assigned
Stay current with evolving fleet technologies, diagnostic systems, and equipment used by Waste Pro
Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor to support shop and fleet operations
Maintain a strong focus on safety, quality workmanship, and operational efficiency at all times

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs overhead unassisted
Ability to push and pull up to 50 lbs unassisted
Frequent repetitive movement, including:
Bending at knees and waist (100-200 times per day)
Reaching overhead and outward with extended arms (100-200 times per day)
Twisting at the waist (100-200 times per day)
Ability to work in extreme temperatures and varying weather conditions, including outdoor roadside service calls
Work Environment
Combination of shop and field maintenance work
Exposure to noise, vibration, heavy equipment, and mechanical systems
Occasional outdoor work in heat, cold, rain, and other weather conditions
