THE POSITION

The County Caseworker 2 position with the Lehigh County Office of Crisis Intervention gives you the chance to support people during challenging moments. You will be part of a team that helps individuals find calm, direction, and resources when they need them most. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This highly responsible role in the combined Information & Referral and Crisis Intervention Unit supports individuals who need information, referrals, or crisis intervention, often during stressful or urgent situations. You will gather details, respond to requests, and help people access appropriate services across many programs. As a County Caseworker 2, you will perform the following duties:

  • Crisis Response: Assist individuals who contact the crisis line or seek help through phone, walk-in, or outreach services
  • Service Screening: Evaluate requests for mental health or DHS services and identify the most appropriate next steps
  • Safety Awareness: Recognize signs of danger and use de-escalation skills or law enforcement support when needed
  • Client Support: Accompany individuals and families to needed services and ensure access to appropriate resources
  • Information Processing: Accurately document contacts, referrals, and assessments in required systems
  • Professional Collaboration: Work respectfully with clients, families, police, hospitals, and DHS offices to support effective service delivery
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Part-time employment, up to 20 hours per week.
    • Guaranteed two shifts at 10 hours each. This position primarily works overnight and on weekends.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six months of experience as a County Caseworker 1; or
  • Successful completion of the County Social Casework Intern program; or
  • A bachelor's degree with a social welfare major; or
  • A bachelor's degree which includes or is supplemented by 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of professional social casework experience in a public or private social service agency; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within two months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.

Other Requirements:
  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:
  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
