Position Summary
The Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, School of Medicine is seeking a part-time (0.4FTE), fixed-term Open Rank Psychiatrist, for the role of Staff Psychiatrist for a UNC Assertive Community Treatment ( ACT) Team operating in Chapel Hill, NC and surrounding areas. The ACT Team provides comprehensive psychiatric and rehabilitative services to approximately 50 individuals with serious and persistent mental illness as well as co-morbid substance use disorders. The psychiatrist will provide clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary ACT Team, and is responsible for clinical oversight and implementation of treatment and interventions. The psychiatrist will conduct psychiatric assessments, manage treatment, medications, and other interventions, and assess physical health needs. The psychiatrist may also provide training and clinical supervision to residents, medical students, and other mental health trainees and collaborate on relevant research projects.
This position provides multiple opportunities that enhance the experience of practicing psychiatry on an ACT team. These opportunities include:
Collaboration with ACT practice experts who are disseminating best ACT practices in North Carolina and nationally through UNC's Institute for Best Practices. Institute staff work in close collaboration with UNC ACT teams to help train North Carolina and out-of-state ACT teams in best practice work.
Integration of the ACT team in a large academic health care system.
Shared management of patient care with psychiatric crisis and inpatient services within the UNC system when those services are essential for an individual's care.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Applicant must hold an MD or DO and completion of an approved psychiatric residency program; BC/BE; and a North Carolina medical license is required. Must have a valid NC driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience working with individuals with serious mental illness. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required and the applicant must have the ability to work flexibly within a team setting.
